is that what that other wire is for? lol. there was one that was supposed to be hooked up to a switched source (as in, when you turn your headlights on). What I thought that would do would be to make them not light up during the day and then only light up with the headlights on, but since I didn't hook it up they are lit up blue 100% of the time. So, if I hook that up then they'll light up white during the day and blue when I turn the headlights on? do you know a good wire to hack into for a switched power source that's easy to get to?

yeah the idea is that they are supposed to be bright white during the day. just buy a fuse tap and tap into your radio fuse for a switched 12v.

i dont have these gauges, but im guessing you need.... power, ground, and illumination. get power from radio fuse, and for illumination you can splice into the light around your cig lighter or anything else that would normally turn on when you turn your lights on.

I've already got power from the cigarette lighter. so, that other wire going to the cigarette lighter is for the light? I'll try that out and see what happens.

I have them and they look good however they are still in the box since i dont have the rest of my parts yet rolleyes.gif they should be decent for lighting during the day if you have just the bright white on and provided there isnt much glare. more to be said later when i have them in and all. Vid too if one isnt up.

ok here's the deal with the green gauges. Stef has them with the 2 gauge pod.

they light up great in the day white, not the best pics but they are very readable in white durring the daytime.

IPB Image

and at night they light up bright green. They cannot be dimmed and are much brighter then the stock green bulbs (pic below)

IPB Image

now if you get some green LEDs for the stock gauge cluster, (she did later) then they will match much better, but not perfect, just much better. Here's a pic of the green LEDs in the stock gauge cluster.

IPB Image

Now I can't find a pic of the LEDs and the guages together, I'll keep looking and post it up if I find it.

my opinion
pros : they are pretty inexpensive and look good
cons : they aren't as easy to wire as other gauges because of the 2 color output (white/day, green/night), they can't be dimmed, they can't be wired to a dimable light source (or they won't light up properly at all), and the fittings/senders they come with are kinda generic.

i just ordered a set of green/white premiums with peak hold smile.gif. the oil pressure sender they come with is TINY. a huge plus because you dont risk the sender breaking. the oil pressure gauge will also warn you if your oil pressure gets too low.

Can't be dimmed?!?!? That is HORRIBLE.

Blinding, distracting, and worst of all: cop magnet...

rolleyes.gif

Are you sure they just don't work with the rising-ground dimming that Toyota uses? (my gauges wire up directly to the bulbs so I don't worry on my Camry... on my WRX, I had to make an inverting circuit to dim my gauges)

I'll find the circuit to use if they can be dimmed from the power-side of the circuit and post it here (radio shack has all the necessary parts).

I believe the reason people with the blue gauges have trouble seeing them is because they don't have the color change option like the other colors, they are just blue all the time and that itself makes them harder to read in the day time.

Art, you should have told me you were thinking about buying them. I would have showed you mine in intimate detail, problems and all

I most defintely turn them all the way up on the drag strip or anytime I really need to see them... but when they are on the a-pillar, they are distracting when cruising on dark roads. No need to see your boost or EGT when you aren't on it, right?

Personal choice though! smile.gif
