Buy a peice of aluminum. Measure around the widest part of your filter. Add about 2 inches to that length. Measure from the top to the end of the rubber coupler. Cut your aluminum as wide as the first measurement by the second measurement. Say 12" x 6". Then cut 3 or more strips from the aluminum about 1/2" wide by about 4 to 6 inches. Drill holes along the side that is as long as the first measurement. Rivet or use small bolts to attatch the strips so they can go from the aluminum to the tubing for the intake. Now bend the shield around the filter and bend the strips down to the tubing so that you can use a hose clamp to secure it to the tubing.
I have attached a cheap paint pic to help.

when you say measure around the widest part you mean the circumference from one point to another or just the distance

is 18 bucks too much to pay for one? I never have enough time to make one myself.

You can start with a piece of cardboard and make a template out of it.
Then you can use aluminum plate or lay some glass on it.
There is a write up on C.tech
BTW, Heat shield is going to prevent your "filter" from radiant heat.
However, the SRI still sucks hot air from engine bay.
The best way is to do a cold air box and supply air from outside.

It's a box that completely seal the filter preventing it from sucking hot air in the engine bay.
It has a duct that draw cold air from the outside.
