Hey to all! I jus bought my first Celica last week, its a White GT (2.0 Litre Engine... 174bhp) its a beast .. I'm really pleased, haven't stopped driving it (going out again in a few mins) anyway I've been reading up on parts for better performance and I've got a few questions...

1. What are the benefits/what does it do... TRD : Low Temperature Sports Thermostat?

2. I'm going to get some sort of air filter... I was thinking HKS... but whats better, an open air (cone shape) or and drop in filter (same shape as the stock to fit in the air box)?

3. Has anyone got any advice ideas or things I should know about or just cool tips?

I'll be adding pics soon!!

Any help at all is greatly appreciated!

Thanks and hello to everyone again!!

Hello and welcome to the site smile.gif

I'll start off with the mandatory "Utilize the search feature on the site before you post, blah blah blah..."

anyways...

1. A low temp thermostat will allow the engine to run cooler, making more power and reducing the engine's tendency to detonate. Detonation, usually producing audible pinging or even knocking sounds, refers to the spontaneous explosion of the unburned air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. Detonation violently ends the normal combustion process, reduces power, and can severely damage the engine. (quoted from Hypertech http://www.hypertech.com/powerstat.html)

2. Personally I wouldn't waist my money on an HKS system. Any old intake will do the trick. I have an eBay one. Works just as well as the ones with fancy names. Cone filter would be a K&N filter. If you want some power from the intake try and go with a CAI (Cold Air Intake) as it will sit farther away from your engine bay and won't suck up as much heat as a SRI (Short Ram Intake). That, or get a drop in TRD filter.

3. Just look around on the site and read up on everything you possibly can. This place is full of information and the greatest group of people you will find on the internet.
