I wanna stick in a switch DIN or something to that effect on my dash... I'm thinking 3 or 4 switches to control my trunk and cabin neons and couple other things... only thing is I have a double DIN stereo so that part's out... I was thinking maybe the part where the cigarette lighter is; just remove that and work in something with the switches on there..... ideas...??? kindasad.gif

If anybody else has done mods like that... a few pics could be good...

The bit to the left (or right - depending on which country you are in) is replaceable. I am guessing you have the cubby hole. That can be replaced with an OEM three-switch panel that will take a range of Toyota switches or standard automotive rocker switches. Just need to find the right ones to use.

For trunk popper, how about the lexus trunk switch?

That is a Toyota part and will fit in the double-switch blank under your steering wheel (assuming you don't have 4-wheel steering).

These are for LHD but might assist:

Cover, Instrument Panel Hole (55548-20090) - this is the cubby hole

Base, Switch (from convertible) (55449-20100) - this is the panel to hold 3 switches

Sorry, can't find a picture of the Lexus trunk/gas switches panel.

So if you already have the cubby hole can "I" just buy the switches or is that cubby hole a "special one"??? also wouldn't those switches just rock back and forth and not stay up or down since they are "convertable top" switches?

I am guessing you already have the RHD version of the cubby hole. The switch panel replaces the cubby hole. Then you just pop the swithces or blanks into the panel. The switches themselves aren't part of the panel - they are seperate.

Toyota use basically the same switch size across most of their range. While you are right that the convertable switches aren't latching there are latching rockers and latching push switches that will fit into those holes (along with various other accessories). But as they nearly all have either screenprinted or 'glogo' lettering you may be better off using a generic rocker switch from your local auto spares shop. Choose carefully and you'll find one that is a good fit.

As an update, that 3 switch panel for our cubby holes run around $8-10 at my toyota dealership. Has anyone bought the panel and fitted their own switches? If so which switches? Mine is coming in on monday/tuesday. I want to run my fog lights to one switch and my radar detector to another, what inline fuse size should I use for the radar detector?

cut out the part with the cig lighter and cubby, then fill it with fiberglass.

Spread a thin layer of bondo on top of the fiberglass, then sand it down so it is flush with the rest of the piece, then you can drill the holes for switches and it will look clean, not like it was botched out of officemax plastic.
