Hey guys, going back a reading my threads I noticed that it has been just over one year since I drove my Camry with the 3s-gte on the street for the first time... I figured it was time to make a little update thread.

The short story: Things are going great!

After the swap, when the motor had just an intake and exhaust on it, it put down 269 crank hp. (Pic below is from that dyno day)

IPB Image

After my first trip to the drag strip, I found out the input shaft seal on the transmission was leaking (and causing the clutch to slip) and had to fix that. I went back to the dragstrip and broke an axle where it goes into the hub:

IPB Image

So I fixed that one. Yay for $90 lifetime warranty axles!

After a few more trips to the drag strip, I have gotten better. Just last night I had my best 1/8th mile run so far:

IPB Image

According to my calculations, this would translate to almost exactly a 14.0 second quarter mile time. This is on street tires with just an intake, exhaust and boost controller. Too bad in one week, we will be down to only one public 1/4 mile track in all of Southern California.

I still have a plans left for the Camry:

- Water/Methanol injection should add a few HP and help the motor run safer at high boost
- 50-75 shot nitrous. This with drag radials should allow me to get low 13's in the 1/4
- paint / bodywork... right now, its UGLY and I want to fix it somewhat

I've also been toying with the idea of finding a decent condition All-trac Camry. They seem to be pretty cheap (sub $2k) and I'd be able to swap everything over easily. I'd then have a cleaner, nicer looking and faster (off the line) car that would REALLY blow people's minds...

What do you guys think? biggrin.gif

I have high friends in places... errr... friends in high places. Or, a little extra $$$ goes a long way with the right people. Kinda sucks, but you gotta pay to play. smile.gif

An Alltrac camry's drivetrain components can handle all that power? Somehow i have a feeling that a LOT of upgrading would be needed...

Well you wouldn't have to use the Camry Alltrac transmission or diff. The ST205 transmission and diff are bolt-in only requiring 1 custom front axle. You actually could use the entire rear subframe from the ST205 including diff and brakes, thats what I'm using on my Camry Alltrac tongue.gif

The Camry would look great with a good coat of paint especially with that front lip. I've seen them on some junked V6 models but all have been trashed. You got lucky Charlie smile.gif

I'd find a way to make it work. smile.gif With the ST205 tranny, rear diff and motor I wouldn't worry too much about breaking axles. Remember, the power would be split 4-ways instead of just two. If I break something, I fix it - not a big deal.

Nice work. Ive always like the Alltrac Camrys and swapped Camrys. But it seems close to impossible to find an Alltrac.. last one I saw was in the Junkyard with the rear end pulled out...

Do they have more room to work with than the 5GC Alltrac?

The gen 4/5/6 Celica is very similar to a gen 2 Camry. Same motor mounts, similar/same rear suspension, similar/same motor selections, brakes, etc. I know the 6gc engine bay has an inch or two extra between the motor and radiator, but I'm not sure about other gen Celicas. The radiator fan shroud is 1/2" or less from the turbo compressor while it has well over an inch on the ST205 (I'm using the ST205 radiator/fans).

When it gets down to the fine details though, they do have a lot of differences...

So, I now own a Camry Alltrac... Baby blue, nearly perfect paint and interior, 97k miles (currently). I will be getting the complete ST205 drivetrain sometime this year, along with the ST205 brakes and all. I'll post it up again when that project starts.

Oh, and the original Camry is still running strong, other than a nagging oil leak on the oil fllter relocation kit block adapter.

LOL.... yeah, tell me about it. I've mostly been working on my 60ft times - very hard in a FWD car! Maybe someday I'll get it better.

Nope. Mine is a silver '03 wagon. That pic was taken at a WRX dyno day where my Camry made 269hp at stock boost. biggrin.gif

Glad to see a Camry getting some upgrades.

XPander did the full ST205 swap in FL.

I have always wanted to do a swap in My Camry AT. biggrin.gif
A bit of rust makes it much more of a sleeper IMHO.
(plus weight reduction)
