I have instralled a Magnaflow straight thru muffler and have not replaced the tail pipe(going along with the 1 3/4" i already have. The sound increse is not significantly noticeble since i still have the resonator sitting betwen the cat n the muffler. However i get a subtle growl at high rev.
I am considering replacing the tail pipe with the 2 1/4" one and removing the resonator. However, i am scared that it would sound too loud. I dont want an undesierable "noise" and would prefer to have a loud growl....
Anybody done such a thing....how did it sound...

Take it insteps.

Go to 2.5" with a filter and increase in fuel psi, A/F ratio and timing.

Then replace the resonator. If it is to noisy, replace w/ an aftermarket one.

Whoever told you so is telling fibbs.

You do not have to, but why increase your pipe size and change your muffler then.

Why trouble the car at all. confused.gif

Just put your stuff on and experiment.

Good Luck.

heres what i did. first i took off the resonator and did the same thing as you and installed the magnaflow exhaust. it wasnt actually too loud but it sounded really good, more like a growl. not the typical coffee can exhaust sound.im pretty sure u would like that king. i just recently finished 2.5" piping and a strait flow cat, the sound difference isnt really there. it got a little louder but that basically it. o, and i have a ram air filter in. hope i helped u out a little. enjoy smile.gif

without a header, you should be fine w/ just the muffler and 2.25" pipe. that's what i had, but then, i installed a header, and it got so nasty it was unbearable. talkin about rasp-city. so i had to put a resonator back on. smile.gif.

Hey King I've got just a Barrel on mine along with a short ram and I think that's just the sound you're looking for. I plan to change my pipes as well but what I have now sounds just like what you want. I think. smile.gif

I posted a sound clip of mine a while back.

My Exhaust

It's a 7 second clip. That what I get, you get an awesome soud when you hit the fuel cut off. That's Injen, and 2 1/2" catback piping to MagnaFlow straight thru muffler.

Make sure the catback piping is mandrel bent and not crush bent. Mandrel meaning it keeps the same diameter throughout the length of the piping, crush meaning it's basically stuck into a visegrip and bent by hand. You can easily tell the difference not only in the look, but in sound and performance.
