How do you do that to the shifter? Its sick, but it looks like you have to get rid of the o/d. If anyone could help it would be great! Thanks |

You can wire up a new O/D switch i did that. For the Shifter what you do is remove the old one and cut the 2 pieces the inner little stick thing, and the outer tube. You cut them as short as you want them. not a hard mod. in my profile picture you can see my shiftnob i think?

I can't get mine off, even after undoing the two screws which look like the only things holding it on. Thanks! |

Hey here it is. Bare with me though that i havent done this in 2 years since i bought the car so if a step doesnt work sorry this is just what i can remember.
1.First shift into drive 1 or 2 so that you can undo the two screws on the back of the shifter 2.Next (I Think) you should be able to just pull upwards and separate these two pieces. This might need to be done after removing O/D switch and wiring?? 3. Get your O/D surrounding plastic off? i forget i think it just can be popped out with a flathead or something. 4. Unscrew the little screw that is holding the switch to the inner shifter. 5. Unplug the wires from this switch. And cut the plug off of the 2 O/D blue wires. 6. I used a simple switch from a local parts store, i had to lengthen the 2 blue O/D wires to reach my switch. Chose a place for your swicth and wire it up with the 2 wires. 7. As you can see i actually mislead you guys i did not have to do any cutting of my stick or the post? you may need to depending on how short youd like to go. The other silver piece that you guys dont have is a part of my shift new shift knob. i wasnt able to remove it. 8. i finished off with my shift nob, no button. i like the look you just have to push it down and the whole assembly moves down. and i added a leather e-brake boot. to give it a nicer look That is my new O/D switch as well if you guys did not realize it, the other switch is for my lights under my dash. I think thats it. Hopefully i didnt forget anything important and hopefully it will help you all out. Dana This post has been edited by 94celigts: Jul 28, 2007 - 10:51 AM |

Um... one quick question. Does this mod really help automatics shift quicker?

QUOTE(FortuneCookie @ Jul 29, 2007 - 5:19 PM) Um... one quick question. Does this mod really help automatics shift quicker? i'm pretty sure its just for looks.. the reason short shifters work is because it changes the angle of the ball joint (wording?) so just shortening the shaft doesn't really help a manual or automatic. Definately only for looks. even on a manual if you just cut the rod to make it shorter it doesnt actually do anything in fact i think it makes it worse because with the shorter shifter your throws actually become greater, the only way to do it on a manual to make it better is to actually get the short shift kit.
