well i got a yellow sticker for it!!!

its because --> bluelights at the back license, oil leaks and shaking at idle...i need to go over the pit really soon and i havent got a clue why it shakes. I was thinking the alternator but apparently thats not it (or so i think), not the idle control valve either, took it to my mechanic and he doesnt have a clue!!!!! The weird thing is though when cold it doesnt shakes, only shakes when the car is warm. kindasad.gif

I already changed the light colour and cleaned up the oil in the engine compartment, im not gonna fix the oil leaking(Im assuming its leaking from the timing belt area and the rea main seal) as it requires take whole engine out and i just dont have time for that..but im stumped at the shaking prblem..

Can anyone help me on this??

In a way yes..when the car has defects (little ones that can be easily repaired) and your unfotunate enough to run into a police like me mad.gif you will get one. They will give you sometime to fix it...like 2 or 3 weeks then you have to take it over the pit to clear it...

So it shakes only when it's warm. It might be your transmission. Definately not your alternator, not a alternator symptom. Is the check engine light on?

no..no lights is on, i thought its a lose gear box or somthing like that but i checked and nope. Im assuming when taking cold air it doesnt shake, it was all fine with the oem fiter, then one day the hose cracked and i noticed the shaking (could be a coincident), i replaced it with a CAI and it shakes like that from that moment onwards...

Now come to think of it...it must be the air problem. Do you need the airflow meter connected???

You need to calm down man. LoL. No, you do not need an air temp or volume meter. And I'm pretty sure the shaking isn't an air problem. Even if your car was to take in hot or cold it shouldn't be shaking like that. It might be possible that something flew into your engine when there was a crack causing it to studder. The problem can be just a coincedence with your timing of intake changing and turns out ot be worse. Honestly, the only thing I could think of is to diagnose your car. Turn on the car, let it warm up, and rev it from the throttle cable and see what it does. Try to look for any unfamiliar noises like clunking and knocking.

when its cold...its like anycar, higher rpm. But once its warm, the shaking starts somtimes the shaking is neglectable but somtimes it shakes sooo bad that the needle fluctuates violently and i had to rev it a bit to steady it (btw its an auto)...no noise however. engine runs smooth everytime.

On a side note when i put it to neutral it doesnt shakes as much but still shakes. so its probably not the transmission.

Since you have a SX, I'm assuming you have the 7AFE engine like I do. When I first turn on the car, the RPM stays at 1100RPM. And after it warms up, it slowly drops to 900RPM and stays there at idle. It sounds like you are having a really bad 'rough idling'. Those are normally caused by bad O2 sensors or your engine is indired need of a tune up (spark plugs, spark plug wires, distrubutor cap & rotor). That's the only thing I can think of right now. And also, why do you have it in neutral? Automatics should rarely be put in neutral.

no its a 5sfe..its like a gt in US...well because it shook so bad so i had to shift to neutral in order to minimize the shake. Really IM stumped..i havent do anything to the engine yet coz im swapping a 3sgte in soon so there is no point in tuning it up... frown.gif

Well, I don't know what to tell you bro. Becuz the distributor is the most expensive part of a tune-up ($200+) I'd just go to a junkyard and pull out a used one for now for about $30 and use that for now. Honestly, would you rather have the car keep messing up on you while you drive and eventually stop working? Or would you rather have it reliable till you can do the whole swap?

i jsut wanna clear the sticker, trust me i went to a few wreckers in here and none have any 6g celica, kinda rare in australia. Besides what if the distibutor is not the cause? The mechanic is kinda specialise in toyota car but he didnt know what it is, I kinda not expecting us to, (i was hoping though). But thanks alot for the all inputs i really appreciate it i will mess with it tomorrow again..hopefully i can put a few bandaids in the correct places. biggrin.gif

I'm sure its not an O2 sensor problem becuz there is no check engine light. My Honda PRELUDE did the same thing when it had rough idling and Hondas are known for idling problems. I start the car, no problems, let it warm, and right when I drive off, it starts shaking like it's choking and the RPM gauge goes crazy. I fixed it by changing the O2 sensor but rough idling like that is also caused by needing proper tune-up as well. Even if your mechanic specializes in Toyota, rough idling happens to EVERY make and model and he should know that. Thats like saying my Aquafine Water Bottles get dirty after sitting and Dasani Water Bottles doesn't. I'm giving off details from hands-on experience and no one else has aided you after 50+ views. And if it isn't a tune-up, then honestly, I don't know what to say. But good luck to you and hopefully you get that 3SGTE swap in. wink.gif

Thanks again, well yea as i said i was planning to do the swap sometime end of year but if i cant fix this i might have to do it sooner, and financial is the prblem. If i got it fixed i will update this thread so that in the future if a similar problem spotted 6ger can get it fixed quickly. Thanks all!
