Ok i began stripping/sanding and prepping my rims for paint on the weekend.
The first rim i painted went perfect looks great and everything. After this one though it all went bad. It was hot out it could possibly be that? but what would happen is this, i primed the rim with normal primer, used a bit of cleaner to get rid of any dust/dirt from the rim then waited a bit and painted with Flat black Duplicolour rim paint. it started out alright but then i got alot of fisheyes, little circles/ bubbles in the paint. I dont know why this happend but it did so i tried to do it to the next rim, same thing again. It is really making me angry and fed up lol, Please could someone let me know if this has happend to them or if there is a way to fix it. Like i said it was just under 30 degrees outside and i was not doing it in direct sunlight could that be a factor? As well i did Prime then paint the rims, Do you need to prime with Duplicolour wheel paint. finally the cleaner i used is acetone.(sp) i dont know but could that be doing something with the paint? Please let me know Thanks for your input As well any suggestions with a way to try to make it work better? Dana This post has been edited by 94celigts: Aug 8, 2007 - 8:35 AM |

I have painted rims on and ofcourse did it myself. Read the label on those canisters on what degrees temp it's best used it. I remember mine did that becuz it was extremely hot outside. The best time to actually do it is when it's cold outside.

a) remember he's canada i think he means 30* C
b) you gotta make sure you wipe down really well with the acetone, and make sure there isn't acetone "left" on the surface (after all paint can't work well with such material) so make sure you use a clean lint free cloth to wipe down and make sure its dry dry c) THIN LIGHT COTES the first time you go over it you still wana be able to see some primer through it. EVEN smooth strokes of the paint can |

no don't acetone it after primer
after primer gets a chance to dry, wet sand it lightly with high grit sand paper rinse with water, dry, wipe down with a TACK CLOTH spray |

Is it possible to get your wheels chrome dipped? Mine are just a flat gray and I'd really like them chrome. Price?
Thanks |
