i dont know if its just my imagination, but it seems like my celica's paint is really dulling. i see everyone else's pix and the paint still looks nice (ie. shines) after 7+ ish years. so, does anyone know if its normal for the paint to dull? and how many of you have had paint jobs, and if so how much did it cost you? thanx. peace.

What colour paint do you have? The Toyota red is famous for being a shocker if your car is outdoors a lot. I see so many faded red Mr2's Celica's Corollas etc its not funny.
My car is garaged so I am guessing that it makes a lot of difference to the paint quality over the years. You can do the whole claybarpaintcleanerpolishwax process. ( I probably forgot a few steps in there)

Oh yeh, and pics can be deceiving! There are probably Celica owning/Photochop experts on this site.

*Edit* I just saw that you have a white car. You can't get white to shine up like a black car can no matter how much work you put into it.

The light colour cars dont respond to polishing as well as darker coloured cars.

Don't know about anyone else, but my car looks better in pictures or from further away. Once you get closer you can see the chips/dings and where the black isn't quite as nice as it used to be. Hopefully that will change in a couple of months though.

Yeah, my black looks great starting until about 5 feet away. Anything closer you can start seeing stuff. My front bumper is peeling really bad, too. I've heard a lot of Toyotas do that especially Solaras, but mine is the first one I've actually seen in person.

Have you tried polishing your car yet? And when I say polish, I'm not talking about some 30 min job. I'm talking about serious "applying and buffing", like spending a few hours on it.

My gf's accord was fading and dulling out pretty bad. I spent about 3 hours one weekend and made her car shine.

Also, I don't know if white was one of the colors that Toyota didn't use clear coat... but Toyota didn't use clear coat on some of their solid (non-metallic) colors. For example, you'll probably notice A LOT of red and black MR2's, Camry's, etc with faded and worn out paint. The reason for this is because no clear coat was used... Toyota just used clearcoat on the Metallic paints. Why? Dunno...

But on the real, try polishing your car. Spend a few hours doing this on a free weekend.

Hope that helps...

When I got my car in 2001, the paint was only faded inside the water spots which were all over the car from the previous owner not taking care of the car. In the clear spots, the paint was fine. I think my teal color was a metallic color, so it may have had a clear coat.

In October 2002, my car was keyed all the way down the side and on the back. In November of 2002, I got hooked up and had my car painted spa yellow pearl, which is a beautiful color. I gave the shop owner $1,000 insurance money from my car getting keyed, and then I built him a $6-700 computer to use for his shop, and he painted my car for me. The paint job is awesome too, and I am incredibly happy with it. biggrin.gif

By the way, what kind of polish do you use Ray? I want to do that to my car soon so that it continues to shine. smile.gif
