same reason most 1.6 civics are louder than celicas. it's just the way the company designed it. not saying the intentionally made one car louder than the next, but just a result. one thing i can't figure out though, is why my car is louder than my wifes car. both 6gc's, both have 5sfe, factory exhaust with canister muffler and mine is outlandishly louder than hers....

It has a lot to do with what muffler you put on it. You can have a ricy raspy celica if you put the right muffler on it (or wrong in this case). If you swapped the "can" on the car out for an oval shapped magnaflow it will sound a lot better.

Yea for the most part is not really the car, but rather how the car "breathes"...

A lot of things could be the reason; size of piping, type of filter, how dirty the filter is, age of exhaust pipe, old Cat, etc...

You want to change the noise? Either gut the cat, or swap out a test pipe... oh man.

yours could a have a hole in the exhaust before the muffler.

my friend has a 91 240sx with just an injen intake on it and it's louder than my turbo celica w/ 3" turbo-back exhaust and a magnaflow race series muffler.

If you want it to sound great just buy an oval muffler. B13 sentras look dumb with angle exit exhaust.

If you want a real nice sounding muffler, look here.

the size of the pipe can be the cause as well. yours is 3/4in bigger which means less velocity than hers so the flow is slower than hers ....which means less noise...sorta like a whistle. harder you blow the louder it is
