Just kinda curious of the opinions with those who listen to the "dance oriented" side of music? I've found it harder to find new stuff out there that really catches my attention that has a fresh sound... I feel as things are shifting towards the old school sound almost (disco, electro hooks), but I could be crazy... Consensus?

Well over this side of the pond, the last 12 months have been all about minimal (which i hate) and electro (some of which i really like) but it now seems to be shifting back towards funky house at the moment.

It'll always be trance though for me. There have been a few decent tracks out this year, but nothing like say 5 years ago frown.gif

What DJ's are big in the States? What sort of music do you like?

I'm going to Ibiza in 3 weeks so i'll have a better idea of where things are going. Can't wait biggrin.gif
And tonight it's Eddie Halliwell, a crazy hard trance scratching lunatic laugh.gif sweet.

The detroit techno scene is a shadow of its former self. It makes me sad.

The main issue i see with a lot of the artists these days, is their music sounds recycled. Example Benny Benassi, I like his music but it all really sounds the same. Tiesto will however always be one of the greatest, he constantly surprises me with his tracks.

However look to the UK Ministry of Sound compilations. They always have great tracks on them, as long as they arent the ****ty US versions.

My tastes shift around quite a bit... I used to be into harder stuff, but lately I've actually started to like some of the "retro" sounding stuff, so go figure

Some of the artists/tracks i've liked over the past year or so:

The Freemasons- Rain Down Love
Booty Luv- Boogie2Nite
D Ramirez- La Discotech
Seamus Haji- Last Night A DJ Saved My Life
Freddie Le Grand- Put your hands up for Detroit
Ferry Corsten- Fire
Bodyrox- Yeah Yeah
DJ Mehdi- I Am Somebody
Michael Gray- Borderline
Outwork- Electro
Cedric Gervais- Pills

just a sample...

Above and Beyond always churn out fresh stuff, and their Anjunabeats label has some really cool talents in there. Ronski Speed is a champ and surprising me, too.

Hahaha Jumpstyle. The rage here in Holland and Belgium (where they "invented" it) of this summer. The link you put up was the "beginning" of the style a year or so back when those crazy Belgiums did it. Now its more like this

It looks like **** (and it really is laugh.gif ) but try to do it for more then 1-2 minutes, perfect condition exercise laugh.gif laugh.gif

Lars Palmas (DJ Gollum) makes a lot of that style of music. It's too hyper for me, though, and it all sounds the same with those muddy saw synths, chords, and the "bad guy" voice telling you to kick the bass or kiss his ass. If you guys want a funny, but cool song, check Lars Palmas' version of "The Hard Way". laugh.gif

I've been listening to Dance music for years but my taste is broadening of late. Not sure if that's got something to do with getting older or just because there doesn't seem to be that much good dance stuff out at the minute? It's difficult to weed out the half decent tracks from all the commercial cr#p in the charts.

I've got too many "favourite tracks" to list here but I'm really in to the Chemical Brothers at the minute (but always have been come to think of it). There is one track by Alloy Mental called "We Have Control" which is pretty good too IMO.
