I want to put a 4age in my celi. my buddy has one but it's out of an RWD AE86. what do I have to do to make it fit, or will it even work?

I herd that the only thing that I'd have to change is the intake manifold but what about motor mounts?

this should b in the engines section...but 4A motors should bolt up to the 7afe tranny if you have a celica ST with the 1.8L 7AFE motor. Then its just a matter of wiring and throttel cabels. It should fit, a few members here have 20V 4age motors in their ST's.

do you know if it will bolt up to the auto tranny as well. I mean I imagine it would but im just not sure.

yes it will, it is tha "A" series Engine, it will bolt up to engine mounts, and the auto tranny.... you will have to get some custom fabricated mounts for Power Steering, cruise control and a few other things... not too much work...

how much harder is the 20V swap?


I imagine it would make wiring a bitch but I dont' really know.

if the motor is from an Ae86... you're gonna need water lines, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, accessory brackets, and mount brackets. It's significantly harder than a 20V not to mention, IMO, the 4AG from the AE86 stock vs stock is no better than a 7AFE. The 20V is much easier because it was designed for a FWD car.

so swapping a 20v is easier.. Allot of people are saying its harder. would it be easier to just do a hybrid 7age?

Not exactly. More work is involved and this also means more money.

so.. one person says 16 valve is easier, another says its harder 20v is easier, then another says its harder... errrr?

so the 16v bolts right up to the tranny. and the engine mounts. I would already need custom headers, some re wiring and redoing a few hoses...


actaully im lost.

My buddy is getting rid of a 16v in good condition. hes gonna sell it to me for $100 so I figure why not i might as well.

yea or ne?

Between the 20V and 16V... 20V is easier simply because you won't have to do anything to the waterlines. I believe what netrata is trying to say is 7AGE is much more difficult than a 16V or 20V, which is obviously true.

i didnt say it would b easy..i said its feasable with work...but your tranny should bolt up to the 16v block without a problem. i completely forgot about the motor mounts and manifolds.

You prob. have more headaches with 16V from an AE86 vs a 20V. If your inclined to getting a 16V at least get one from an AE92. I don't understand why you would want to get a 16V tho? You would not notice much between a 16V and your 7A now. Plus the 16V is outdated now, at least stick to the 7A and go turbo.

PS, I have a 16V 4age FWD from an AE92 so If your inclined to getting the ae86 motor you can buy my fwd parts for the conversion.

well the only thing that sold me is a perfectly running 16v for $100. versus my 7a which is close to dying.

yea, go with the 20v if you can...in the long term the engine will cost you 100 but all extra work and parts will cost you same amount (if not close) as a 20v with parts
