Im just curious if any one has ever gone to another country to teach english as a second language? One of my friends and her sister have both done it *my friend in Mexico and her sister in Japan, China, Thialand and Korea*, and i was wondering what company you have gone through to get your certificate. Also, if you have any stories, or wanna shed some insight on what its like *the culture shock, living in another country, speaking another language, the job, the pay, etc*, that would be great. Sarah and i are looking into it for when we finish up school in about a year and a bits time.

There are a lot of companies that arrange these trips... Maybe take a chat with your school, and they will probably help you out ( I'm just assuming )
The best practice is to go to a foreign country and speak it every day, and the best way to prevent any " shock " is to learn a little about the actual location you are planning to go to, read about religios views, cultural-things and just basic behaviour. :=) |

Im in a college, so they are mostly focused on gettin u in and out the door as soon as you can, not really caring about what else u wanna do. My girl friend has already looked into it through her school and through some adds shes seen on the internet. As for location, we are really really considering France. We have both been there b4, we loved the atmosphere, the people, the location, and best of all the food. I can already speak french almost fluently *was completely fluent when i was younger and kinda lost it over the years*. We were also considering France because this company who would be giving us our certificate, said that on average, people teaching ESL *english as a second language*, make between $1600-$2200 Euro per month minimum and only work 25 hours a week. They also said that about 70% of the people who get hired to teach in a school will also get hired to work doing private tutoring for any where between $10-$80euro an hour depending on the people. Ive done some research into things and ive found that most places to stay *mostly flats*, are around $1000-$1400 euro/month for a single or 2 bedroom flat...the size is mostly depending on where you go. I looked into places along the Cote De Azur, and places in Cannes, Marseilles, Nice, etc..are like $1300 euro for a single bedroom tiny flat...but then if you go up a bit north to a place like Lyon or Chamonix, places are $1200 for a big 2 bedroom flat. Is that about average price for a flat in europe? or is where im looking a bit high??? |

My cousin and her boyfriend are actually about to do this. She was telling me since she's taking a year off (just got her bachelor's degree) she's going to go with her boyfriend to indonesia and teach english for a year. I'm not sure how much it costed but I could probably find more details if you wanted. She's probably going to be stopping by where I'm at (UK) before she heads over. Right now she's in Salem.

Have you checked with your Embassies abroad? I know for the U.S. where there is an Embassy posted in the country, there is most likely to be an American International School (AIS) where not only the American Embassy personnel use but other expats send their kids to that school because its a good school. The AIS also hire language instructors.

I have been learning English from your point of you "abroad" as well . My teacher is from Seattle . But I believe it's not your point...
btw.: flat rent prices are really different in European countries... just for example here you can find easily one for 570USD (430€) per month (and it's not cheapest)... -------------------- No more replicas... This is evolution... This is SS-four :)
