Ive been thinkin lately that i wanna do a motor swap into my car...mostly thinkin beams or a UK/J-spec 3SGE. I mostly see BEAMS on e-bay and through used engine places for between $2700-4500 USD. Most of them just come with the enigne, tranny and a wiring harness..but as Outsider has shown, USDM/CDM tachs wont work, so you will need to either get a cluster, just the SSIII tach, or go with an aftermarket. But im also thinking that i wanna fix my roof *get rid of this crappy aftermarket sunroof i have and go full hard top*. But if i did do that, i would wanna re-paint the car. But if i repainted the car, i would want to get some OEM sides, GT blocks, and some sort of rear splitter or maybe upgrade the front to a 96+ front end. So i was thinking...why not see if i can get a wrecked SSIII or a wrecked j-spec GT that has had damage in the rear end, buy the entire car *since wrecked cars are usually pretty cheap*, bring it over and just rip the thing apart?
I know there are alot of people who go out and buy half cuts, but has any one imported a full car for parts??? I can handel the whole getting it here part, but i have no idea of what to do when its here. Do i just tell the gov that its a parts car and it will be scrapped after its been taken apart? or do i have to get it brought over partialy taken apart? EDIT: my friend has a shipment coming in from japan in jan or feb, so if i can find one for a good price, i may consider getting it brought over then. QUOTE(trdss111 @ Sep 2, 2007 - 4:18 PM) good idea if you could get a group of people that know what parts they want to go splits on the car or sumthin like that. try www.japaneseusedcars.com for an estimate on a wrecked car I would probably be using most of the parts my self, motor, tranny, wiring, headlights, hatch, spoiler blocks, side skirts, maybe front and rear splitters aswell as front bumper, interior bits. But what ever else im not gonna be using, id probably put on my girl friends coupe. EDIT: i just checked that site and they have a SSIII for like $4k thats not wrecked..if i could find one wrecked, then it would probably be still cheaper. and they even have full areo currens for like $2500 lowered with mods. this is looking to be a decent idea.. its a pretty good site. jus fill out an estimate form telling them what your looking for and they will get back to you with a (fob) price this is the price of the car and whatever it takes to get it on the ship. cars are cheap the problem over here is we get done on vrt (vehicle registration tax) its about 2k on a decent ss111. but if you were buyin a wrecked one you wouldn have to pay it because you wouldn be registering it. thats how it is over here. plus there are alot more parts on a car than you jus mentioned and people on this site want to buy everything from engines to ashtrays. the only prob when i was parting my old one was tryin to get parts over there. wasnt really bothered with trying to send seats to hawaii so i had to let the car go cheap. which reminds me i still have the f**kin seats.

here you only pay if the car is being registered..so pretty much to bring it over, i would only have to pay for the cost of the car, get my friend to ship it over when he brings his next shipment of cars over from japan, then pay the 7%+$100 for the importing costs..mind you i donno if i do have to pay for that since the car will not be driven on the streets/ever. Im gonna call my friend up tomorrow and see what he says about the whole situation/what he would charge me to bring it over.
