ok so my car has recently started eating oil . and today the car started smoking only at idle with a very burnt oil smelll. then during driving there is no smoke .i popped out the spark plugs and there dosent appear to be any residue on the plugs. it also idle almost perfectly when it smokes .so im going to rule out the head gasket but could it be vavle seals?

Same with mine but I puffed smoke in between gears...my car is gone til saturday but I am replacing my timing belt,accessory belts,head gasket,valve seals and my water pump...I figure I am at 172,000 and just replaced my transmission at 150,000 that I should be able now to hit that 300,000 run that a toyota can go tongue.gif

My uncle who is my mechanic said that Toyotas are FAMOUS for their valve seals going...but,that's really the only "problem" with them.

yes. smoke at idle is bad valve seals

smoke while driving is bad piston rings

Blue or black smoke at any time is oil burning, white smoke at any time is coolant burning. Blue smoke only at startup is valve seals and during running or acceleration is usually rings.

Yeah, the Yelli Celi is having this issue. Its running rich and burning oil through the valve seals. If I'm sitting at a stop and I take off I leave a nice ploom of smoke... frown.gif

AE111 coming soon...

I replaced the valve stem seals on our 7AFE, requires several specialized tools to do the job and took about 4hrs. Here's one tool;

And another;

This tooling allows seal replacement with out removing the head. The PITA is the stem keepers. If you drop one down into the crankcase!!!!

Seals are about $40.

That could just be your valve cover gasket. Change that.

my car has blue smoke come out of the muffler whenever i start my car in the morning or if it sits for long periods of time. my cars at 182,xxx miles right now. what will happen if i dont do any of the fixing how long will it last? how much does it cost to get valve seals done and all that stuff? i just changed my spark plugs and got a oil change. my uncle told me to get spark plug seals and change the valve cover and get a new valve gasket. any other things i can do to maintain it well?
