Well the kids 7AFE JDM motor failed emiss test, I kinda figured it would. NO EGR port thru the head. What are you doing for replacement converters???? Can't ad a working egr system so I thought I'd throw some cats at it. Looking for a cheap and fast alternative to the two cat setup. What did you do for replacement cats?

depends on how they do emissions there. Here in CA... no matter what you do, you fail because of no EGR... regardless of how clean the emissions are. Either way, the manifold cat is $$$. The lower cat can be replaced with any universal (which will need to be welded on) or a direct replacement for $$$.

Installed a new rear cat and drove it around for 30 min to heat it up, it passed by 97ppm NO. So maybe I'll have to replace the forward cat for next year. Alldatapro says the front cat is a warmup cat to help get the o2 sensors working quicker. No CELs or faults recorded

My JDM 7AFE actually does have the EGR stuff bolted up, so it looks normal, just does not have the port thru the head-as all JDM 7afe heads- for US federal emissions.

next time just pull your timing back a little to pass the testing and then set it back to specs.

my 93 prizm with 7afe doesnt have any egr equipment at all, came just like that and is a fed spec motor. nor do i have the precat, it sounds like you got a cali spec setup there.

the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.

You can get rid of the Code 71 fault with a radio shack .$99 resistor. I adjusted the timing yesterday was set at about 14degs, corrected it back to ten.

well once you've passed emissions go ahead and advance the timing a little, makes a little more power. just jump up an octance level at the pump.
