I notice that barely anyone uses the original air intake. Why? Isnt that the best cai? Is it because of the sound?

When I bought my car, it came with a HKS mushroom intake that was deceivingly placed into the intake hose with a huge gap between two parts. My car was essentially sucking in air through this gap. I did some searching and found out that the HKS mushroom filter is the worst of them all. During the process of using plumbing piping to close this gap, I tore my stock intake hose. I did my research, got a replacement Samco intake hose, and bought an Apexi Power Intake. Not only is the Samco hose very durable for when I need to take it out/fiddle with it when I play with my engine, the Apexi Power Intake turns out allows better airflow and filtration than the HKS. (one of the many pages I read about filtration - http://mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/index.html )

These two items were the first mods I did on my car.

Your current intake will suck warm air from the engine bay, the stock wont. So i just wonder why it is so popular to make a wai (warm air intake) when your stock is a cai.

I'm thinking of doing the same to my 95 5sfe. How much HP do you have with that setup? What setup is that? How much did it cost? How did you get the air intake tube down under the battery into the fender? It doesn't seem like there is much room?
Thanks
