I completed another audio project that I've been wanting to accomplish for awhile. The owner before the one I purchased the car from, decided it would be nice to take out his rear speakers before selling it, so I bought the car with no back speakers. I had always had the intentions of putting ones back there but I had no idea if the brackets were gone, or if there was even speaker wire there in the first place. So, I took off the panels and looked back there, both were still there. But I decided to do something else besides putting 6.5" speakers in the factory location. I decided to buy 6x9 boxes from my work, and add some 6x9 speakers to the back hatch instead of putting the stock ones in their location. I went out and bought some Sony 6x9's (normally I'm not a fan of Sony, but these speakers at my work (Best Buy), were the hardest hitting 6x9 while still containing clarity), and bought the boxes. The speaker wiring was a hack job, so I re-did all the wiring and put loom around the speaker wiring for minimum interfence. I also used some spare Dynamat to line the inside of the boxes, worked amazingly. I never knew how much of a difference rear speakers made until I realized what I missed when I didn't have them. Who needs a sub when you have two clear, hard-hitting 6x9's? I'd highly suggest this to anyone looking for bass on a budget. Here are some pics of the overall project completed, has anyone else done this before?

I've been a busy bee! I also managed to replace my front Rockford speakers today with Infinity's. These sound amazing with the rear Sony's in. I'm officially finished with the cars audio system.
Here's a break-down of what I've done: - Dynamat'd doors, panels, and hatch - Alpine 9870 w/ iPod cable - Infinity Reference 6.5" speakers - Sony 3-way speakers in Dynamat'd 6x9 boxes ![]() ![]() The spare Dynamat I had really came into use. ![]() -Matt |

ok so you are trying to install those speakers on the back o the car.................... idk,,, does the difference is really that much??
wouldn't it be better just to buy some amps and make custom fiberglass enclosures that go with the car? well at least thats my idea jeje -------------------- ![]() |

I didn't do that, the installers at Best Buy did it when they put in my Rockford speakers. Seems to be working great, no rattling. Joe, it does really work great. You'd have to hear it in person to appreciate it. -Matt |
