QUOTE(GotToyota @ Oct 23, 2007 - 4:52 PM)

Hey guys, I'm looking for opinions here about what I should do for a sub. I was thinking about getting a amp/sub in a box, but then I decided maybe I should get a powered sub instead, particularly the Infinity Basslink. I'm not looking for something to rattle my car, or is louder then my current speakers. I want something that hits nice and low, doesn't take up too much space, and doesn't put a dent in my wallet (with accomodations at my work, I get the Basslink for $125). I could either get that, or a 10" Infinity Reference, 1300A Infinity Amp, with a smaller 10" box for about $165-$175. The box is bigger then the Basslink though, and I'm hearing awesome things about the Basslink. What do you guys think I should go? Wiring is not an issue because I already have all the amp wiring ran to the back of the hatch.

P.S. - I listen to alot of heavy metal, classic rock, trance, and SOME rap.

-Matt

go with buying a 12" rockford fosgate sub. only get one, because this way it won't take too much room and it will hit good. sometimes when you have two of them you have to worry about them hitting together. when they are off it doesn't sound good. i have that speaker in my car and it sounds great. not too loud, but just right. also, i would get a 4 channel amp. 1 channel for the front speakers, 1 for the rear, and 2 for the sub. unless you want to get (1) 4 channel for inside speakers and (1) 2 channel for the sub. either way it'll be fine. and you don't really have to get 1200W amp. let us know what you have decided. laterz...

10" is the only way to go. That size is more suited for the kind of music I listen to.

I've narrowed it down to either a Rockford P1 or Infinity Reference 10". Tough choice, what do you guys think?

The basslink sounds really good if you dont like a whole lot of bass and i think they make a basslink II that has wired remote for adjustable bass. The quality and clarity is good out of the basslinks and its sounds like you can get a good deal so i would go with the basslink.

Yeah, that's what I had heard.

Both versions of the Basslink come with a wired remote.

Such a tough choice. I wish I had some local people with subs so I could compare.

I was thinking about the P1.

Plus one advantage to the sub/amp combo is if one component breaks, such as the sub or the amp, it would be cheaper to replace, since the Basslink is a one piece deal.

Rockford or Infinity, hmm. I know I'm already going to get a 10", but I'm going to do some research as to which one I should get. Anyone have any advice as to which one?

having heard both the P1 and the REF 10 inch in a hatchback (both ecplise's) you should be happier with the fosgate sub, but we both know it all depends on the amp/box/sub combo.

I think I've decided to just go with the Basslink. Takes up less space, it has a more factory look, and it puts out more power then a conventional 10".

Just go to a pawn shop, you can get a pretty good amp and subs if you look around. They also hook everything up in the shop so that you can hear it. My system hits pretty hard and has good sound, rockford 900 and 2 10" sonys, both for $150.

Yeah, the MK3 was a bust.

But yeah, I plan on keeping it for a good while.

Anyone have any thoughts on the 10" Alpine Type-E?

After reading your initial post, you sound like you had made your mind up about getting the Basslink already. I suggest buying it, especially considering your discount, trying it and letting us know how it is before you waste too much time in limbo and never get anything in your car.

If all else fails, Bestbuy I believe has a generous return policy.

Yeah, it's awesome, isn't it? wink.gif

I changed my mind. I believe I'm going to go with a 10" Kenwood subwoofer, 300W RMS. As for amp not, I'm not sure. My friend's brother has JL 2-channel he is selling for cheap, I might go with that.

The Kenwood is a KFC-W2511. I've read nothing but good things about it.

wow you change your mind a lot. i have 2 12" references (4 ohm single voice coil) with 695 watts rms at 2 ohms going to them (347 watts rms each). The infinitys can handle twice as much power as the p1s, and a bit more than the p2s, cause remember the infinities are rated in rms power and the rockfords are in peak power. i would say get the one 10" infinity and there are a few boxes at best buy to choose from. then get a mono amp (1 channel) that puts out 250-300 watts rms at 2 ohms stable. Just know that once you get some bass going you are probably going to want more and more biggrin.gif .
