I am going to buy an Optima battery but am unsure which one to get. Is the red top sufficient? I am also installing a 170 amp high output alternator.

What is the difference between to two batteries? Cranking amps?

Do you like yours?

I have red but yellow is better for electronics, but is a bit more expensive frown.gif I used to kill every normal battery but my redtop keeps up really well with the subs and all of the power being drawn... I'd go yellow if u have the $$ though and are planning on a big system

I have a yellow top... deep cycle batteries are really good if you have your system on when your car isn't... i loved mine when i had my system in... but now without the system, it's just another battery frown.gif

lol.... yes, but they last twice as long as a regular battery which is $50-70 (x2 $100-140). plus the advantages of the optimas... you need to see if it is worth it personally. I am a electronic fanatic and the importance of a good battery, alternator, and wiring is priceless! laugh.gif

Were talking like 140-200$ batteries here. Where do you guys get the money to buy such expensive batteries.

because optima's are a different kind of battery then a conventional one. They are leak proof and could even be mounted upside down, they don't make any hydrogen emissions which means they won't corrode battery terminals and won't explode if you accidentally get a spark to close to them, they last twice as long, and they are able to make more cold-cranking amps with a smaller battery. only downside is they are a little denser so they have a little more weight to them, but since you're using a smaller battery then the weight probably evens out to what you would expect a conventional battery with 800 CCA to weigh.

anyway, yellow top is a deep-cycle battery which means it's more durable to being drained and then recharged. which would be good if you plan on using your stereo while the car isn't running.

why are you getting a 170 amp high output alternator ?

probably to run a huge sound system without draining the battery even with the car running.

best part is the warranty on them. redtop is 3yrs, in store replacement. seeing as how most batteries only last 2yrs, you just go back and get a new one if when it dies, and your 3yr warranty starts all over again. i already replaced mine once when i killed it by running the car with no alt for 2hrs.

I hope this doesn't count as a thread jack...

I looked up Optima for my car on their site and Autozone, and search results were 0. Where can you buy these? Who carries them?
