Sorry for your loss...
Definitely replace the timing belt, it's pretty standard to replace that when the water pump gets replaced so you only have to open it up once. As for other stuff, might as well at least do plugs/wires/cap/rotor stuff so you can keep track of when everything was done. If the other gaskets don't need to be done, I'd leave 'em alone, but if you're gonna open everything up to inspect it you might as well just replace while you're in there. Just my opinion. -------------------- |

Typically you would just do the timing belt along with the water pump, but I guess it depends on how long its been since the last tune up.
If it's been a while I would replace the plugs for sure, if you don't want to replace the distributor I would pop it off and clean the leads inside. Make sure you put it back on properly. -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

timing belt
waterpump idlers tensioners power steering belt altinator belt cam seals if possible altinator belt bearing (not hole unit as thats way to expensive an unnecessary- just punch bearing out and buy a new one from a bearing place, take bearing into shop) with all that replaced youll be sweet and youll have no squeeks anywhere change all gaskets that you get given and use gasket liquid glue for water pump gaskets! get from car shop make sure you use loctite for the bolts! esp crank bolt and idler and tensioner bolts do everything because you dont want to go back into this area more than once- i did my cambelt myself and it sure is a tricky area but then again ive never done anything like that before This post has been edited by beno: Oct 29, 2007 - 6:13 PM |

I got it done, but runs like crap. I'm thinking timing. First time it sounded kinda rough, bogging. Then shut it off. Second time it squealed like its the starter.

you could also replace the oil pump and front crank seal, while you're in there.
