so I was talking to my friend who is helping me with the swap in the upcoming months and he said the MR2 3sgte engine won't fit in well since MR2's are rarewheel and unless I want to convert to RWD, then I have to get a celica 3sgte.
IS there any difference? |

For the 3rd the only thing different I know are the throttlebody (is longer on a MR2) and the alternator (is on the other side.) on every MR2 engine.
With the 3rd gen its rated 246hp compared to 255(JDM) and 242 (EU) -------------------- JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!

well, if the swapper told me that, i'd look for someone else, he should know that an mr2 is MR and it uses a FWD tranny anyway....

QUOTE(black13 @ Nov 2, 2007 - 2:59 AM) so I was talking to my friend who is helping me with the swap in the upcoming months and he said the MR2 3sgte engine won't fit in well since MR2's are rarewheel and unless I want to convert to RWD, then I have to get a celica 3sgte. Hmmm...experiece tells me he is wrong. It will fit. The fact that it is RWD has nothing to do with it. Rear mounted transverse engines are the same as front mounted transverse engines for purposes of fitment. The only difference is the location of the selector shafts in the tranny and the location of the wiring harness. As kadett mentioned, you will need either an alltrac or custom alternator bracket as well. Edit: I see you are in Calgary. My old car with a MR2T engine is now in Calgary and is owned by board member 6gsillyca. I am sure if you contacted him, he wouldn't mind if you went over and took a look. Thanks for the info.
jgreening I will be contacting 6gsillyca soon as my friend is mostly just getting me the engine but I'm gonna need some help doing the swap as I'm not so familiar with the process. |
