Hi new user to the site here any help or thoughts would be great.
I have a 1998 SS111 with the beams engine problem is once I hit about 190kmph there is a massive loss of power and preformance stops. Now I understand there to be a speed limiter on the car to stop the boys out running the cops in japan but I live in Ireland and have a 20km strip of motorway that I have only once ever seen a cop on in 4 years. So here lies the problem........ How do I get rid of this stupid device????????? Cheers in advance.. Noel |

190kmph (115mph)... just to clarify for everyone else..
I don't know about the beams, but with the USDM engines that sounds just about normal. The only thing I can think of is to get an aftermarket ECU... but good luck finding one. -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

unless you buy an speed limit defender ( I think HKS mades one for the celi ) you can't get rid of it, there is another way ( cutting a wire ) but is gonna throw CEL codes.
Personally I think 190 Km/h ( ~ 118 MPH ) is more than enough for public roads, why would you wanna take a chance like that with your life ? at those speeds anything on the road can take your life away, or damage the beautilful car you have. Welcome to the site, when possible show some pics of your SS III, not many of them around. -------------------- |

Its governed at 112MPH because of Japanese Restrictions, just like a German car can't go faster then 155MPH in Germany itself. Its built into the ECU and you cant really do anything with the STOCK ecu itself. But there are a few ways
- Buy a Stand Alone ECU, not really cheap way to discard the limiter - Convert KPH-MPH using a pulse emitter. UK chaps probably know this better then me. Because 1 mile is bigger then 1 KM the pulse emitter/changer would "fool" the ECU thinking you wont be going as fast as you go. - Like other people said, buy a HKS SLD or something like it. My personal opinion. 112mph is slow. I get there in 4th gear and I want more. When my 3" exhaust is finally done I probably get rid of lmiter and gonna reach my personal goal 155mph -------------------- JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!

Job done........
APEXI RSM REV/SPEED METER FITTED. Pretty cool little toy not only does it turn off the speed limiter it gives you all sort of details such as 0 - 60 Trip computer, tells you how much G force when stopping taking off and in the bends. You can set different speeds so it will flash when your breaking the limit or even limit the car to the national speed limit. Pretty cool display too I have it sitting in the very corner of the dash just at the bottom of the A pillar so s flick of the eye to the right I get my speed and my revs on a cool blue digital display. Will be posting some pics soon just changing the wheels this week. This post has been edited by st202beams: Nov 12, 2007 - 5:01 AM |

Everything in the car works perfect. Its like nothing was done to car, all but for the increased top end ( max yet to be reached BLOODY TRAFFIC )
I was talking to a guy who works on all kinds of top end jap cars and he reckons he also can do a full remap on the beams engine and increase the BHP from 210 to maybe 245 so after the wheels thats the next step. |

I sincerly doubt that he will succeed. Toyota has one of the worst/least accesible ECU's there is. And I don't think you can gain that much. Sports cars from Toyota are already at there max ECU wise when going from the factory. But keep us informed, I'd love to see if your man get's it to work. -------------------- JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!
