Anyone have an idea as to why my radiator hose is expanding like this? I just recently had a coolant flush done by Toyota, as well as a water pump and timing belt. Now today I noticed my temperature gauge was just barely above half, so I looked under the hood and noticed that this hose was slightly expanded. Could it be that I need a new thermostat?

Is the top hose hot while the bottom is cool or other way around?

Both are hot, but the top one is more warm.

that hose looks like it's about to burst. I don't think they bled the system properly.

That's what I was thinking. How do you properly bleed the cooling system?

As far as I know (and correct me if I'm wrong), but you let the car get cold, take off the cap, put it on a slight hill (like a driveway), and let it run, and the air bubbles will come up on their own.

start the car (cold) with the cap off, turn the temp control to hot, fan on high.
fill as needed as the car warms.
dont reuse that hose, i would think the reenforcement cords that are in there are all busted.

its old, thats why. rubber doesnt last forever you know! theres 12-15psi on that hose everytime you drive the car, pretty much the whole time you drive the car, not to mention its over 200F of heat at 13psi.

change both hoses before the ballooning one breaks open and leaves you stranded. use new clamps also please.

I'm at work right now, so Toyota is somewhat close, but it's in the opposite direction of my home, so I'm just going to Auto Zone, which is right on the way home. They said about $30 w/tax for everything. I'd go to Toyota, but I don't want to put much more pressure on the hose.

-Matt

EDIT: BTW, I tried bleeding it, there were no bubbles. So Toyota did everything right. I'll try replacing the hose and thermostat then go from there.

it could also be a radiator cap because it is a pressurized cap and if it is broken it will cause a hose to swell up like that
