I want to throw an 8 cylinder into my celica this summer and supercharge it. Does anybody have any ideas on whats a good v8 engine to look for? And how much would be the average cost for the v8?

Hey, if the chevy LS1 motor can fit in a miata, then why not!?

It is gonna cost you though (alot if someone else does it for you.)

If you have the tools and ability to do it yourself, then your major obstical will be sourcing some parts for good deals.

Yeah my dad built his jeep engine and he worked on his GTO when he was in high school so I'm pretty sure we'll be able to do it ourselves. He hella exaggerates **** though. He says its gonna be so tough getting it in and getting the car to run right. And tune it right.

Well no kidding it's going to be hard to put in. You're suggesting throwing the equivalent of two of your current motors into your engine bay.

It would be a lot easier to do a V6 swap, as that has been done and is more documented.

PM a member on here.. Dr_Tweak. He can answer ALL of your V8 questions.

A v8/v6 swap, things will be tight and kinda iritating to work on, but I know I would love it!

The only motors I can think of right off that would be good is either a chevy 350 ( can get easily for around $200-$300, I know, I've looked!) a LS1 motor (cheapest if from a salvageyard, duh) or the nissan VQ35DE motor (I know, it's a v6 but also easy to find either a fwd or rwd format in a salvage yard, slightly smaller than a v8 so more room to spare, and comes with around 300 bhp with plenty of room to go up!)

Also the camry v6 as well...

Anyone of these would be sweet and since you said you want to supercharge it, then anyone of these are good canidates.

Good Luck and keep us posted! I love these type of things!

You know I actually like the v6 idea better. Cause it sounds easier and less money. Thanks for the help.

V8's are definitely nice, but to fit in our celics they would probably have to stay in "all-motor" form. V6's have room to boost! biggrin.gif

thats exactly what i was thinking. v8+supercharger=pretty damn big. the v6 sounds like fun. shouldnt be too tough since $$$ is the greatest deciding factor for engine swaps (as well as the knowledge of doing it) so good luck man n keep us posted!

So under the swaps category, it says non-feasible is the 2ZZ-GE?

I've seen it done, and running. I will have to look it up again, but I have seen it done. It fits.

And I've seen a 350 small block dropped in other imports, so It shouldn't be too difficult. Would just take some time and effort.

Personally if you want a V6 go buy a Solara.

If you want a V8 leave it in the muscle cars.

You bought a Celica and knew very well it came with a 4 cylinder.

Unless you have crazy time and money, don't worry about it. it won't be a project it will be a pain in the a**.

Yeah, you may love the power that comes from a motor but hate the car and vise-versa. It's just simply getting all the peices in a puzzle that you want.

I love the 2jz motor, and would love to have it in my celica, but I also love the look of the supra, so I would rather buy the supra instaed of messing with a swap. (I just like having alot of cars biggrin.gif)

no it wont fit, ull need substantial mods to the subframe, and the stearing rack.

Please dont take out a loan for this... ull seriously regret it.

plz bond with your father over a 3sgte or a 5sfte build. (<cheaper and lots of info on both)

I wouldn't say that a v8 will not fit in the engine bay, this 5th gen managed to do so, engine bays are similar in size: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5C0veAb-CiM but i will have to say that it wont be easy. Good luck to you if you decide to do so though. smile.gif

Edit: and i just remembered at the recent chino hills meet there was a 1st gen with a tundra motor in it... engine bay may be a little bigger, but goes to show you anything is possible. ( and it was already rwd)

One really important reason I wanna do this engine swap instead of buy a supra is because the car has sentimental value to me. No body is gonna expect a Celica to have a 6 cylinder with supercharge.

The only V8 I could possibly see fitting would be the SHO Taurus motor, don't know the code name of it though, but it's at least a transversely mounted motor, I would give that motor a shot.

EDIT: Here's a Wikipedia link on the motor - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Yamaha_V8_engine#3.4

If you ask me... it's a matter of practicality. If you have to ask a bunch of internet mechanics on a forum, then you're clearly not capable of doing such a swap. If you are capable... go look at the motor, look at the engine bay, break out a measuring tape, and decide for yourself.
