I will tell you what every real experienced biker will tell you

get a ninja 250.....
its not much, its not gsxr fast, its not the sexiests out there.
you can pick one up for $2000 or so and LEARN how to ride..
ride that for a season or so, get the skills down and experience on a bike under your belt, then sell it and get yourself a new bike.

these are a few BIG things to remember
a) don't go looking for a "fast" bike new bike, you will wreck, you will mess it up
b) don't get anything over 600cc if you chose to ignore my previous paragraph
c) don't go out expecting to show off to your friends and do wheelies/burn outs <---you will end up dead
d) take a riding class, Apex or whatever they have local for you
e) get on a local bike forum and see if they have "adopt a noobie" which is where normally an experienced responsible rider will take you on, teach you some needed things, take you out on a ride ect. to help you become a safe/responsible/mature rider.

Dont you guys have driving schools in the states, just like for your car drivers license? Here you have to do the same for both Car and bike license. Taking lessons (20+ hours) and a theory exame and driving test.

Gotta agree with Playr.. My first bike was a 92 Ninja EX500 (500cc) and I was astonished at how fast that thing is. But like he said, don't get anything new.. I paid 500 for my bike and it was in decent shape, I got a great deal on it because I knew the seller.

Too bad the bike had a fuel tank issue and one day I was riding it pulling out from a stop light and it bogged down and then all of a sudden came back to life and went straight into a 90 degree wheely and dropped my ass off.
Don't forget to ALWAYS wear a helmet and I HIGHLY recommend a riding jacket, preferably a leather one. I had my gear on and when I hit the pavement I got right back up and dragged the bike off the road. The side of my leg got all torn up because I was wearing jeans.. but the jacket saved my torso and the helmet saved my head when it slammed down on the road.

thanks playr and i know that i dont wanna end up dead anytime soon that's why i said "does anyone know a good beginner bike that wont kill me"...........lol

but yeah my friends borther taught him and he's the one who gave my friend his suzuki.

his brother has an R1 now and its frickin cool

yeah he taught me a few things but havent gone riding with them yet..........

my cousin just got a Hayabusa (i think that's how you spell it) but he's been riding up there in the mainland for awhile.

he just got down here in the islands and got the bike.

so a ninja....cool cool

oh and yes we got motorcycle skools here i think you got to class every saturday for a month.....pass and get a certificate.........then go to the DMV and present the certificate and do the written test.

if you pass the written test. then you get the license. w/o having to do the driving part.

so yeah thanks playr for the advice imma look for something..........

but then..........i know my parents wont like me having a bike around.......lol

i am going to motorcycle school at the moment , i took a class session and 1 out of 2 on-bike sessions , the school will help you learn more than just ride the motorcycle , there is alot of other skills that you will learn ..... and i had to look for a motorcycle too , the Kawasaki Ninja 250 is a great one ! , and the new model is even better , ( only 3200$ and you can get on sale for 500$ less) , but if you are a bit tall , that bike WILL not work , your second option is a 500CC bike , which you can get for about 3800-3900$ ( MSRP is 5200) , which is a bit bigger and more comfortable on longer rides ( 1 hr + ) ..... i like the Suzuki GS500F , good bike , reliable and nice looking .

Ya the next bike I go for is going to be a sport touring probably.. a nice cross between a sport bike and cruiser.

Get a razor blade - and cut your wrists - it will be quicker death biggrin.gif

lol, just kidding... I hate all the sport bikes... Cuz only this summer in my Area statistic was:

27 killed
190 injured...

in my Town - new kid to the bikes, along with his GF, owning a bike for 3 days, pushing 220km/h, head to head crash into the car...

He felw around 40 meter, ended up dead instantly
Hi GF (witch was 18, same age as him) flew 65 meter, then slided on the corn feeld for another 6 meters, was still alive... BUT, doctors (best 6 Lith doctors) could not make her live... Everything down her chest was ripped apart....

I knew both of them (not in personaly) and it was a tragedy....

This is why i bought DAMN CHOPPER biggrin.gif Max speed 70mph, and cruising around is more fun then flying on the streets...

If you get a bike - make sure you will act responsibly FIRST OF ALL...

This kid I know from my flight school was in an accident this summer on his bike with his gf.. she died.. he got f'd up.. I don't remember if it was his fault or not.. I want to think it wasn't. But either way it was on a crotch rocket and a tragedy indeed.

Just dont ride outside your limits. Riding a motorcycle is a risk I take. I know the consequences and the dangers. My love for being on my bikes overcomes those dangers though. I ride to work and back everyday very safely. I have a track bike that I track once a month to get my fix. Track bike FTW.

Pick up a used Suzuki GS500. They are excellent bikes for beginners, with a very easy learning curve, and can be had for CHEAP! I had one for my first bike and I am glad that I did. You will forever be a better rider if you pick up a "slow" bike and learn to ride fast, than if you have a fast bike that you are scared of. You should never be afraid of your bike, but rather, give it the respect it deserves. For your first bike, a 500cc bike will be plenty, and will not feel slow at all until you have a good amount of experience on it. PLEASE listen to the bike veterans here, we are looking out for your own good!

Be safe!
