I just wanted to put it out there that I really hate SUV's and the gas that they suck up. Why would a person want to buy a car that gets like 10 mpg?
over in china they have a new car thats a cross between a van and a mini cooper and it gets 60mpg. They have laws about the dimensions and about minimum gas mileage. Why are we not following their lead? And the gov't wastes all their money and our money on technology to build a hybrid SUV which really does not exist as the electricity shuts off at about 40mph. So anyone who drives major roads uses up gas anyway. Unl;ess a family have like six children you don't need a big car. God forbid that children have to share the back of a sedan. Just getting those feelings off my chest. |

There is an upcoming law that deals with mileage, XX must be achieved by every vehicle made in 20XX.

i too dislike gargantuan vehicles, even more so the people that drive them. they think that just because their car is 3x bigger they think they can ride up my ass and ill move. how very wrong are they.....
i also hate people that buy trucks and dont use it for what its worth. 99% of the time i see trucks driving around and nothing is in the back. what the hell is the purpose of having a truck if your not going to haul things around. especially when the mpg is very low. total waste. but then again, american's are full of "waste". -------------------- |

I had a newer Grand Cherokee that got about 15-16mpg. Really nice comfortable ride with plenty of features, but then I decided the same thing. I had no real reason to have an SUV with a V8 engine in it as a daily driver, so I sold it and got a little civic for a daily driver, that gets 3 times the gas mileage. I do have a gas guzzling wrangler for 'fun' and for safer winter driving when it snows. But I barely put any miles on it, so far about 4,000 this year including a 1,000 mile drive for vacation.
Oh yeah and to forkee- there is a dually truck I've seen around here a few times, LOWERED with some paint job. Is that not the stupidest thing imaginable? |

I couldn't have said it better myself. When they ride my ass, I usually slow down to piss them off. On a 2-lane road, I sometimes I slow down and keep pace with a slow car so they can't pass. |

It's called freedom..freedom of choice, something my south neighbors seems to be very proud of.
EDIT : If any of you guys frequently go on autoblog, it's disapointing how many people think that automaticaly taxing certain vehicle because of emission, gas mileage / size of vehicle screams automatically "communism or socialism", as if everything is fine as it is and "FREEDOM" should never been walked on no matter what the drive is (like environmental causes). Selfish eh. We're all doomed, I'm here to enjoy the ride and get in debts! woohoo! I remember correctly an argument that made my chuckle inside... One commenter said exactly what you said, why people rides SUVs and theres only 1 person inside most of the time? The guy right under said "Well I NEED an SUV, I'm pretty sure your corollas and civic's can't put my yacht down the marina riiiiight?" The guy replied, which I applaud for, "I see you certain NEED a YACHT RIGHT?" lol @ people This post has been edited by Rayme: Dec 4, 2007 - 10:42 PM -------------------- -Rémy 02 SiR, 08 250R |

You go to europe and seeing an suv is really unusual because the people there get it. Gas is about 6 dollars a gallon so they all drive smart cars and it seems like a good use of freedom. Americans on the whole care more bout what the car looks like than the efficiency of it. |

I agree. I used to drive a '90 suburban street-tank. I didn't really like it, but its what my parents gave me when i was 16 (my dad used it to haul stuff so it was just kinda there). Plus I'm about 3 times the size of my parents and my dad's 4th gen celi and my mom's 91 camry was a little less practical.
But I would much rather be in a small car despite my size. One day down the road I wouldn't mind owning like a wrangler or something, but just for weekends or taking on the beach. I'll still have a celica as my daily driver. -------------------- "He won't come out of the bathroom. He keeps telling us we're dark somethings and not his friends."
"Hmm. Ask him if he's the dragon reborn." "What?" "Just do it." ".......He said yes." "Tell him you are not darklings. He should open up." ".......Sweet. Thanks." "No problem." |

SUVs aren't popular in Europe because the roads are a helluva lot smaller and gas is triple the price.

I think we texans can agree that the number of trucks and SUV down here are uslessly used. But i would have to say that they have a purpose. I owned a Ford F150 1990 and that i had a lot of fun with, i wish i still had it, it was the straight 6 engine, moster puller. great on the beach, not so great off roud because of the weight but still fun, and because ive been in bands since i was 13 it was handy for halling everything around. also it was the first vehical i bought myself so there was a little pride there but thats not the point. The point is that they should be used for fun, halling, and pulling, but daily drivers, not if you can help it.

The point is that they should be used for fun, halling, and pulling, but daily drivers, not if you can help it. I heard on NPR a few days ago that a study was done on the pollution in Texas, and if Texas was its own country, it would be the 4th largest polluter in the world because of all the big giant cars and the amount of industry down there. A lot of people who drive SUVs I think drive them because of the comfort factor - I was one of those people. I originally got my 4Runner because I was in a relationship for 7 years with someone who had 3 kids, so for a family of 5 it made sense compared to cramming the kids in the Civic. After that relationship ended, I kept the 4Runner another two years roughly, and came to realize that I just couldn't justify having it any more even though I LOVED that car! So I sold it to buy my Celica. I love my Celica, but I really miss my 4Runner. I'd've kept it if it got better mileage, and once hybrid SUVs get the mileage a hybrid SHOULD get, I would strongly consider getting one (as long as it's a Toyota!) -------------------- |

I have a lifted tahoe with 35" tires. It gets 6 miles to the gallon. I don't drive it a lot, mostly when I take the dogs somewhere - or on really ****ty days (I'm in Buffalo NY). But, yeah, they are so comfortable, and you can see everything.

Why do people get SUV's? Why not? Its personal preference.
Why do people buy 30-40 dollar steak and lobster dinners at a restaurant when they're just gonna crap it out the following morning? Why dont they just get a 5 dollar steak from Shop Rite and cook it at home? This post has been edited by Sh0gunkid8721: Dec 6, 2007 - 1:40 AM -------------------- Note to new members. Why do people buy 30-40 dollar steak and lobster dinners at a restaurant when they're just gonna crap it out the following morning? Why dont they just get a 5 dollar steak from Shop Rite and cook it at home? becuase it affects not just the person doing it but everyone around them. its a personal preference that the person fails to recognize is a preference of everyone else. just like smoking. if you're gonna smoke, fine. just do it away from me. if you're gonna put yourself in harms way, fine. just do it far from me. this is the problem that exists because people are selfish and only think of themselves. they don't realize the effects of their actions. the only reasonable rationale for someone to buy an SUV is if they were going to lug around lots of stuff or more than 4 people. or if they go through a lot of uneven terrain frequently.if interior comfort is the only thing, buy a lexus or a mercedes. if its height, go take a bus. if you're gonna buy filet mignon only to shat it out later fine, just don't do it in the stall next to me. if you're gonna buy an SUV, you better know how to drive it AND PARK IT the right way. i hate seeing an SUV in a parking space marked for "compacts" you really can't compare steak to an SUV. yes they are both luxury items but the byproducts are hardly comparable. plus, would you rather be hit by an SUV or a steak?
