You need some injector cleaner and a good tune up. I push 475 constantly on mine, thats highway and city driving combined for about 50/50 each way. 87 Octane for that as well. I bet I could push over 500 if I ran the tank to half a gallon.

My GT with 164k miles gets me around 32 MPG to as much as 35 MPG (about 400 to 3/4 of a tank, I always fill-up at that point) depending on how I drive and where I drive to. When I bought the car I was getting around 26, but I did a tune-up, consisting of NGK copper plugs, synthetic oil change with a good oil filter, fuel system cleaner, and ran the car with Seaform (not sure if it really works or not, but after doing this plus everything mentioned above, my mileage shot up).
As far as driving habits, I shift at about 3k from first to second, then at 2.5k from there on. Also make sure your tire pressure is a consistent 32-33psi, that is one of the biggest factors in your gas mileage, as well as using A/C or lack thereof. *This is with 87 octane. The advantages of getting 93 aren't worth the price difference. -Matt |

if you want to lower your fuel consumption:
1. it's about drive style 2. you car must be lighter (no needless things in a trunk, etc.) 3. leaner tires... (I don know right English word for this however we call it "rolling resistance" between street and tire). 4. clean injectors... 5. better sparks + distributor (or lets say in perfect condition... not old, dirty, burned... etc.) it works works any car... -------------------- No more replicas... This is evolution... This is SS-four :)

I usually get over 400 miles to a tank (50/50 city/highway) with just putting in some injector cleaner every few other fill-ups, keep the tires at correct pressure and stay on top of my oil. I changed up my driving style abit to see how high I can get it. If I see I'm gonna have to stop soon then I let off the gas and coast for a while. (noticed myself, family and friends all keep the gas down and then imediate brake. Why not use some inertia force here? ) -------------------- CLOSED on 25 acres! -shop coming soon.... |

Do all of you guys seriously only put 87 in your cars? I mean I know its an economy engine that can run on 87 but they'll run better with 92. And as far as price difference at 24 cents per gallon more with a 14 gallon tank we're talking like an extra 3 bucks per fill-up. I use 92 and I get about 400 to a tank, (I need new plugs and wires and a compression test, i think I can get more)

With my st coupe on 89 on an all highway trip, fill up before leaving and light coming on and off under a quarter mark I got 470mi on a tank... for daily driving on mine i get between 410-450 depending on city:highway ratios and 89 or 93 usage. I guess I should consider myself lucky cause I know my spark plugs are WAY due, small oil leaks, and 164xxx miles on the engine. I always keep my tires at 32(or try to at least) but I never switch gears under 3k, most of the time I'm downshifting to 3rd from 5th to get a little boost before redline to get around a slowpoke doing the speed limit or 5 over.... :-)

Seafoam's great. I use it about every 10,000 miles... About every third oil change. That reminds me I'm also due for a tranny fluid change.
I got 500 miles/tank on an all highway trip. This post has been edited by Cutrara: Dec 13, 2007 - 11:55 PM -------------------- |

I'm wondering what/how the weather affects mileage myself. When I bought my ST in July, I was averaging 400 miles to a tank, mostly highway but it was stop and go commuter traffic. Within the last month or so I've done the Seafoam treatment, replaced my fuel filter, changed the oil (put in synthetic blend), oil filter, spark plugs (to NGK platinum), cap & rotor and air filter. Still need to do the wires, I know. But since it's gotten cold (about 35 when I leave in the morning, maybe 40 tops at night when I leave work) I'm averaging like 360 a tank. Kinda disappointing.
Would cleaning the throttle body help any with this, ya think? -------------------- |

i've heard 2-3 ounces of actetone in the tank per 10 gallons of gas. it breaks the hydrocarbon molecules into smaller size for a complete burn. but i dunno how it would be on the injector or rings.

Acetone as in the stuff found in nail polish remover? I'd think that would be horrible for your gaskets and anything rubber, that stuff is really harsh on plastic/rubber. They even make non-acetone nail polish remover for that exact reason! (it like melts acrylic nails)
