hey everyone,
I'm new to this site and i hope you can help me out. I tried to replace the stock stereo in my 1999 gt liftback and found out that my best buy wire harness does not fit the plugs coming out of the dash. Bestbuy packaging said that the harness will work for any toyota 1987 and up but that doesnt sound very likely. anyway, I found a different harness at crutchfield but that one has rca plugs for an amplifier. the plug in my dash looks like this: http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i277/sub...os/100_1269.jpg the bestbuy harness i have looks like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/87-Toyota-C...sspagenameZWDVW apparently my car is supposed to have two plugs... anyone know whats going on? do I have some special edition audio system? or even better, does anyone know where i can find a harness??? -------------------- i love how my wheel hopping, corner rolling, one wheel wonder celica looks XD |

well the only reason it wouldnt work is if you have a amplified system and in that case you could use the rca adapters, but you will have to have the radio that will work with that meaning it needs a front and rear speaker out put, but all toyota harnesses are the same just diff in the amplified systems
i would say that if you can not find a harness a simple hard wire would be easy, but i cant tell you exactally as i can not see what car and everything but if you take a pic i could prob help a lot more |

Luke, you have an amplified system. I do have the info on the harness, not at the moment. Ill post it in the afternoon.
actually the plucs you are looking for are hidden. If you follow this wire to the amp, then another wire goes out to the plugs you want. Therefore bypassing the amp, which will now become useless. do you get it. If not when i have a change ill post some pics -------------------- Learned a lot in 10 years... you need this:
Metra 70-8112 Premium Amplifier Integration Harness which attaches on to: in order to keep using your factory amplifier system. Cheapest place to buy it is at AudioOutfitter.com. That's where I got mine from and took about 5 days for international delivery. yes, yes, and yes.
double check to see if you new head unit has two sets of RCA pre-outs in the back, a set for front (L & R) and a set for rear (L & R). if you have only one, then you need to get 2 sets of RCA Jack Y-Cable splitters so that you have 4 RCA preouts all together. here is another pic of the harness: -------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

1A is one amp
.3A is .3 amps .1A is .1 amps its the current rating also... the colors seem to be a bit off... it souldn't be light and dark blue, should be solid blue and the same shade of blue just with a white stripe, if the manual says that the white stripped is an amp wire then use that... the others must be for the power antenna i cant remember what color exactly an amp remote wire is... but i do know that you can put a switch to it on any 12v low current source (cig lighter) and essentially have your bass switch on or off... nice when you dont want alot of bas in a hurry This post has been edited by jason: Dec 17, 2007 - 3:58 PM -------------------- you know why they put sheep at the edge of a cliff.... that way they push back!
