does adjustable cam gear do same thing as performance cams? if not, what's the difference in performance?

jason, please post in the appropriate forum.
no, cams and cam gears are 2 diffrent things.
cams change your powerband by holding your valves open and closed.
the gears just help to optimize your powerband.
on a 5s, we have a 'slave cam" design, where the exhaust cam is driven by the intake cam, which is not an ideal setup for cam gear adjustments, because you cannot change them independantly.
a 2jz gear fits the 5s with minor mods, and arron from ats can make them out of a stock gear.
