I have replaced a high pressure power steering line because old one was leeking. New one is leaking like 10 times more. It leaks as much as I pour. I added another washer and a rubber washer and retightened everything and its leaking like 5th of july leakage parade. Is 3sgte 3rd gen not compatible with 5sfe high pressure power steering hose? I am running out of options here. I spent like 40 hours this week alone shoving my hands into tight crevises basically spending like 15 mins to unscrew a bolt, clean everything and yada yada.
I cant take it to any shop cause steering wheel is on hydrostarve lock and turns only 1 inch each side and or if you really push it you can turn it fully in about a minute. have any of you swappers had that problem? What else is there to do? sealant wont work either.. tried that. its leaking a stream about as big as this letter O in a steady flow like out of faucet. Its on under side of where hose meets engne and I cant see if anything is cracked or not. To touch everything seems just fine. -------------------- Captain Pessimist

did you replace the crush washer on the banjo bolt that connects the line to the pump?

I have replaced it, then tried old one, then tried a combination of both then totally new one, then i tried to use sealant, then I tried using a finger from a rubber glove as additional gasket then went back to washers etc etc.
I been at it for a week now. I start car daily just to keep it running but i cant move it other than forwards or backwards I can not see if anything is cracked there because entire thing is under piping and wires and a bit in the shade whether you look at it from under car or from overhead view This post has been edited by yarik83: Dec 18, 2007 - 7:28 PM -------------------- Captain Pessimist

yeah, you should have 2 brass washers on there. replace them with brand new toyota ones.
mine had to be tightened really well before it stopped leaking. i put a wrench on it, and then used a thick piece of wood and a hammer to help tighten it down more. its a very tight area to work in, so its hard to just tighten it down by hand. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Yeah, its a pita to do the power steering. Just replaced mine last weekend. I would suggest getting a new washer from toyota if you haven't already. Then use your hand, then a wrench then a torque wrench to tightened it. The space is really really tight to work. So the only way to know its screwed on to spec is by torque wrench. Also make sure there is no crack anywhere in the hose from working in the area. It may actually may not be leaking from the banjo bolt itself. Walmart sells this portable lamp light that you see a lot at auto shops for about $10 and its very good to use underneath the car.
