ok im wrkin on a turbo kit 4 my freshly rebuilt 5sfe. heres a list of everything done to the motor:

bored .040 w/ topline pistons
arp head studs
soon to have arp rod bolts
cometic metal head gasket
everythin else if brand new but still stock..
new motor now has around 1000 miles on it

ive always heard a motor w/ arp head studs and rod bolts combined w/ a good head gasket can handle a lil more power and i was wondering since burien kits run a reliable 7lbs do u think w/ the right setup and proper tuning a 5sfe could be daily driven on 10lbs....

ne advice as appreciated thanx.

as long as you keep that always in mind you can run 10 lbs pretty save and probably even a little more.

no 10psi will not be safe at all. not even 7 psi.
why? because you didnt list how you are planning to tune it.

how are you getting ARP rod bolts for the 5s?
ARP dont make an application for the 5s rod bolts, and last time i saw someone inquire about them, ARP would only make them in runs of 50 sets.
if you do have a source for them, let me know.

im gettin an SAFC II and taking it to Top Dead Center performance to get it dyno tuned

i have 3sgte head studs so i was assuming the rod bolts would wrk as well. if im wrong let me know. if 7lbs of boost wasnt reliable y would burien make their kit to run 7?

also does ne1 know what kinda numbers i would b puttin down? and im kinda worried a t3 is a lil big i dont want a lot of lag.

You need to remember that 7psi on the burien kits turbo isn't the same 7psi as the t3.

You need to give us a little more info on your set up. Do you at least have an intercooler? Boost controler? More info is helpfull for us so we can help you.

3s rod bolts dont fit the 5s rods.

Buriens definition of reliable is a very loose term imo. Do you know anyone using their kit still?

no i was just reading abt. it.....im new to the whole turbo deal and want my motor to last at least 30-40,000 miles by then ill b able to buy a new one... i was just thinkin that since a stock motor is "supposed" to handle 7lbs...i asumed w/ the few minor parts that r supposed to make ur motor a lot stronger i could run 10lbs fairly reliable......the kit is not going on my car until i have all the parts to tune it the right way...

Again, 7lbs is different across turbos, and a motor isn't "supposed" to handle boost. Some do, some don't, even if they are the same type motor.

Thats kind of what your not understanding. Mechanical strength is only part of the equation. Fuel and timing control is what really decides how much boost you can safely run. Plenty of people have blown their motors in the past on 7psi of boost, because they failed to upgrade their injectors or make any attempt to visit a dyno and tune their car.

The weak link in your case is the safc. Its a really crude way to try to tune for bigger injectors. If you want the car to last, you should look into something like an emanage, map2ecu, etc... that allows for direct fuel and timing control, and is not just fooling the stock air sensor like the safc does.

Don't take any examples from the burien kit. They sold only one of those, and didn't offer any form of tuning.

so dynotuning my car w/ an safc would b kinda pointless? how much am i lookin at just to tune it the "right" way...and i dont mean the most exspensive thing they make but good enough to dyno tune it w/o constantly having to wry abt. it....after that being said...do yall think it would b worth it?

an safc will work... its just not a good way. like he said, an emanage or something that offers a bit more than a general fuel map based on rpm and 2 points of throttle position will be alot better.

if this is just a fun weekend car then thats prolly the way to go with an safc, but if you want the car to run normal and still have drivability, you're better off going the emanage route.

its not the matter of actually dyno tunning the car, its using the right equipment so that all the time spent tunning is put to good use

I agree with what you are saying, but i think many will agree with me when i say Emanage is not for everyone. It is very difficult for new users who are unfamiliar with any kind of tuning. SAFCII is pretty much your novice-intermediate tuning as it allows you to pull/add fuel or air when you need without needing a laptop in your car.

Kerr1, Once you finish your turbo set up, take your car to a reputable shop (and by REPUTABLE i mean have done EXTENSIVE tuning work) nearby and ask for a complete tune and dyno. They can easily tune your car with the SAFCII and make it RUN DECENT.

But if your looking for PRIME DRIVING then i would recommend the Emanage...
