Hey guys,
My understanding is that there are not many good 5SFE flywheels out there for the Celica GT. I can have some high quality, 4140 Forged Steel, 12lb flywheels made for this application if there's enough interest out there. The cost on these flywheels will be $299 plus shipping (usually around $19). They will be made by Competition Clutch, they make very good stuff (we use their products on all of our cars). So, who would be interested in one? 1. It's really just a thread to gauge interest.

I believe our flywheel weighs around 18 pounds. As for SPEC, they make an aluminum flywheel as well as Fidanza. Not sure if there are any that make a steel flywheel for a 5SFE, at least none that I have found. I would most likely be interested in getting one made if this goes through. -------------------- |

As far as I know this is the only lightweight cromoly steel one-piece flywheel for the 5SFE.
And if this gets put into the buying/selling section, then no one will see it and all the Celica GT guys will miss out! It's more of a discussion thread about flywheels than a for sale thread anyway. -Doc -------------------- -Dr Tweak, 6GC's resident engine swap wiring expert extraordinaire Click here to see my swaps drtweak@phoenixtuning.com |

How much of a diff would you feel on a 5sfe from a stock flywheel to the lighter one?

On every lightweight flywheel application that I've seen, there's a significant different in how the car revs and accelerates.

I've seen Fidanza and Clutchmasters applications for the GT, what makes this one different? I could use a new one, along with a clutch, as I don't know much about it at all I could use a little info! Obviously it helps with shifting and whatnot, are there any other gains I can receive? Also, what's the lifetime expectancy on these type of things?

Don't get this wrong though, it doesn't GIVE more hp, just doesn't take away as much when transfering from bhp to whp. All lightened flywheels for the 5SFE presently available are aluminum, this one is steel. As for aluminum flywheels, it seems its a love/hate relationship. There are many stories of them expoding into pieces during hard driving. -------------------- |

As for aluminum flywheels, it seems its a love/hate relationship. There are many stories of them expoding into pieces during hard driving. For me... it's just hate/hate. Under hard driving, because of the different expansion rates of the aluminum fly and the steel friction plate, they can potentially blow up (happened to my cousin). Steel is the only way to go. Also, a light flywheel is one of the best mods you can do for throttle response. It's one of those mods that you can instantly feel. I have bought a lightweight flywheel from competition clutch, and it was meant for a 4afe with a 6 bolt crank, but me being me i took it to a machine shop and had that problem fixed. It has now been on my 7afe for over 1 year, and its gets driven very hard in auto-xs all the time, no problems so far. Stock weight for 7afe was 16 lbs, now mine is 9lbs These guys were really helpful and so i would def. be interested for my GT if this became available.

If I could find 10-15 people who would possibly buy one in the next 1-12 months, I would do it.
