im haveing a hard time to get my celi to start at anytime during the day except for if i just turned it off then it fires up with one crank of the motor. i understand its cold now but i dont remeber having this problem last year. i have a small bit of corosion (sp) on my battery termanals which im goign to be cleaning off tomarrow and the battery is less then 6 months old. i tend to go through batterys quickly for some reason. i dont think my altinator is going bad since i can start the car and disconect the negitive wire on my battery and it still runs fine. i was wondering if theres a way to test the starter or if theres a better way to test the altinator/battery. im usually pretty good on working on my own car but this ones got me stumped. any advice would be welcomed thx in advance

clean the iac very well, take it off of the throttle body and clean it out with some strong solvents. see if that helps its initial starting. or you can just hold your foot on the pedal slightly, if that starts it easier then it is the iac.

no it takes about 5-8 cranks before the motor turns over so i was kinda thinking its the starter and i dont want it to completely go out on me if thats the case im just thinking to the future and dont want to have to worry about being stranded somewhere

ok so it takes 5-8 tries for the starter to even move the engine? or is the engine turning and just not starting?

does it turn very slowly? i know that both of my 7A-FEs will start fairly fast no matter how fast the starter turns them. i think you may have a fuel or ignition problem.
bitter! it took me only two hours to do the timing belt on my 7A. you should consider doing it yourself.. -------------------- QUOTE "And, as always, your friendship, help, and dedication to the advancement of Texas Celica dominance is GREATLY appreciated. its on my to-do list for when its a little warmer. right now i dont have a warm place to do it and all of my tools are at work. i'll probably just do it there on a long lunch one of these days. its getting a little stretched but other than that isnt in too bad of shape for now. i had attempted it a while back, but the crank pulley puller i borrowed didnt work one it at all so i called it quits.

QUOTE(stephen_lee @ Dec 29, 2007 - 11:57 PM) i had a hard time with the crank bolt.. but actually getting the pully off... well i did it by hand quite easy really? i was under the impression that it was hard to get off and i would need the puller? i may have more rust and corrosion than you do which can make a big difference in how it goes. -------------------- |

nah. you just have to pull perfectly straight. otherwise it'll seem stuck. but this car has 207K miles and never had the tbelt done so its never came off. i did lightly tap it w/ a hammer, though.

yeah, it was pretty easy. neither pulley moved while i was actually changing the belt, so no problem there. i think you only have to align it up so in case one pulley accidentally moves, you could easily set it back how its supposed to be.
