So I've noticed that my gts has gotten a bit sluggish lately and burning up oil like there is no tomorrow. To be honest I enjoy driving my 6th gen GT more than my 7th gen. Any way at WOT i would get black smoke coming out like crazy. At first I thought dang I'm running rich. Then lest say after an oil change after 3 days of regular driving all my oil is gone. I was thinking how could this be. I know its not a leak because its not and I'm blowing smoke, but its not blue smoke, so it can't be the oil could it? Well I decided to do the compression test and I got 120, 220, 170, 200. So cylinder one being 120 has to be the culprit. So I'm thinking dang my valves are screwed. But I shouldnt be burning oil that much even with a bent valve. Could this also be my piston rings? O btw I'm also having random misfires. A mechanic qouted me 1700 just for the head getting rebuilt. I honestly think the price is way too steep. I need you guys' opinion on this. Thanks for reading.

umm, i used to own a gts myself, they are alot nicer to me then the 6th gen, lift is tight too, umm about ur problem, u need to have a compression test done, and add oil and see if that increase the compression if it does then ya thats ur rings, if u have a bent valve, theres a smoke test u can do, when u put the motor in full power stroke(compression) where all the valves are closed, that off the exhaust and intake manifold, and shoot the exhaust in from the top, if smoke comes out then ya the valves are bent

Just a little help on the one subject:
The random misfire thing is very common on the 7th gens both 2zz and 1zz. Does it only happen at redline like my friends Matrix XRS? He eventually sold that car after 2 engines and the problem still wouldn't go away. Best answer he ever got was that the injectors were to small to truly support lift at 8250 RPM. I would say you def need to address that issue along with your compression issue in the #1.

Man as time goes by the 7th gens just prove themselves to be much more delicate than the 4-6th gens. Makes me really glad I stopped my Celica Evolution at 6th [and that was purely based on looks and the turbo option]. Not to downplay your car - I really like the GTS's alot - just fragile [what with the early lift bolt recall and now all these random misfire codes and popped engines].

Good luck man.

Its a safety feature so that people like you don't end up killing themselves or everyone around them.

Thanks. I'm just going to get rid of it. I've put a lot of money into this car and it has been nothing but headaches. I dont misfire in lift, I misfire at idle. After the whole sluggish issue, my car struggles into lift and during lift. My lift bolts are fine my motor just sucks ass. In your friends scenario I think it was his ecu. If you go through motors like that and still get the same issue, its gotta be the ecu. Injectors are fine.
