If you have to ask... then NO. Take all of that money you have and buy a supra. Then spend all of that time you have driving it. The end.

Research says many things. It's just a matter of who you ask. Allow me to say, it's not worth it or even feasible because the amount of time/money/custom fabrication involved is quite beyond most DIY people. Basically, you'll need to hack up the firewall, hack up the front interior, hack up the front support, custom build a streeing rack, hack up the rear-end, custom build a rear subframe, design support points for whatever rear-end you want to use, custom fabricate a from crossmember and reinforce the front frame rails, custom engine mount points, swap in the motor, custom driveline, custom shifter, depending on the rear-end, custom rear axles, and then you might get something that won't fall apart. After all that's done, you still get a 3000 pound car with sub-par suspension and unknown weight balance and handling capabilities. FYI... a Toyota dealership ain't gonna touch something like this... unless you're the owner of said dealership. Better to simply hire the rod shop to build it. Personally... haha well my fathers the CPA CFO of the dealership and ive had a job there since i was 12 and know the owners since i was shorter than my own kneecaps...and im not lookin to hire anyone... im not dreaming here, im just trying to gather information and if you have any other suggestions of engines i should use then let me know, im open to ideas!
if people have put solara engines in celicas, why not a 2jz? i know the solara is fwd and the 2jz is rear the only reason im choosing the 2jz is the abundance of mods for them.... This post has been edited by monkey: Jan 4, 2008 - 1:53 AM |

Well it's great that you have all these connections that can help you out with the work. It would probably then make more sense to ask them about the cost of the project then, since they would be able to give you a better estimate.

A 3sgte AWD swap has already been done in the US a few times. I know your looking for power, which is why you chose the 2jz route, but what exactly are your horsepower goals and what are you trying to achieve here? Ofcourse actually buying a Supra would be the easiest way to achieve having a 2jz, or buying an SC300 and swapping in the turbo motor. Hmm but i say, if you love your celica, and you want to stick with your celica, then it would only make sense to KEEP it a Celica. The engine that would be the most recommended for cost, ease of swap, and power would ofcourse be the 3sgte. yawn. 2nd gen, 3rd gen, even 4th gen, w/e, it's all been done. But it's a good start. It's what you do from there that will set you apart from the rest.

why dont you go the v6 route, all the engines you mention and you havent stated them. i know only a few cleicas have a v6, but their are a good number of them in mr2's . check out the mr2 forums some of their dynos numbers are impressive, saw a couple round 500. I know it aint the 650 750 range, but its still a new option and those people are not done. research the imzfe, 3mz, 3vz, 5vz.
also i dont know anything about the ij or 2j but the only celica i have ever seen that swap was a 1rst gen celica and it needed hella fabrication. dont let people determine your decision, do what you want or dream This post has been edited by illneversellmycelli: Jan 4, 2008 - 3:56 AM -------------------- ![]() |
