I bought my Celi almost a year ago , i had really high hopes for modifying it and everything . I searched the internet for parts , no luck there !. I found 6GC and looked into the 5sfte project, 3sgte swap and V6 swap. they all cost a considerable amount of cash and require alot of time and experience , which i dont really have. I love the Celi's styling and handling. I love that it is not so common around here making it very unique. yet everytime i get behind the wheel i am a bit disappointed , we all know there is NO power in the car.

I am really thinking of selling it and buying another ( used ) car that already have around 200 HP, but there is nothing out there that matches the styling of the celica. I wish i can make it faster but i am way too inexperienced and it would cost around 4-5K , which in addition to the approx. sale price of the car add up to almost 10K , which is slightly less than the money needed for another already-fast car.

I need opinions of whether i should keep it and try to mod it or sell it and get something else , now we all like Celicas and i know everybody's opinion is baised but i am a college student who is about to transfer to university with very little time and no Beater car !!

also , what kind of car would u recommend ?? i was thinking of something like a :
-BMW E46 ( sells for about 12-14K )
-believe or not a procshe boxter 98-99 , about the same price but insanely high insurance and parts
-A V6 mustang ( i know it is a low quality car and the streets are flooded with them , but i always liked them)
-a 2000+ V6 eclipse
-

any suggestions on a car ?? any suggestion on more power ( that is cali legal ) ??

please help em out on this , i cant make my mind up

You dont have to look further the 3sge stock already boost around 180hp mark and the BEAMS is around 200hp.

The point of any project for most ppl is to learn how things work so that when something goes wrong you can DIY and save on $$, for me I like the sensational feeling after you're done and seeing it runs.

Of coz I can always sell my car go on buy another car and in the end still have some cash left over, but diff ppl have diff point of view. If I were to choose a car in ur list I wud have chose the boxster, have always love it since I was little.

yes , but thoose engines will NOT be california Smog legal and i still live with my parents and they dont want me having an illegal car.

i know the feeling you are talking about , i am pretty much a DIY person, but these kinds of project are extremely time ( and space ) consuming , dont get me wrong , id rather have a modified/ personalised car than a regular one , but money is a bit of an issue and the stuff already mentioned .... i just dont know , i know i sound like i want to sell , but i'd rather keep it and modify , my only Legal option is a V6 which to me , just sounded too complicated and there is no step by step guide outhere that is simple enough for me to understand ( i read the stuff on MR2oc )

the beamer is probably your best bet

i doubt you will find a reliable 10 year old porsche boxster under 16k
the mustang is a fix or repair daily. very cheap brand new though
only the newest eclipses are worth it for speed. skip the previous generation

its hard to find 200 hp in a stock car under 15k unless its used, but then you have to worry about reliability

Dude..I know what you're talking about.

I've had my celica since 31st of August. I was really excited about getting it. The slick look, had 150 on the speedometer...but man, when I got behind it I realized that my 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix SE I had was faster. haha

I did think about selling mine a while back..but I realized that no matter how much you put into it you'll never get any of it back out of it. So..I'm going to keep my celica for a LONG time, and just add a few mods at a time..

BUT - on September 27, 2009 I get the rest of my $20,000 sign on bonus for the National Guard, which will come out to around $6,700 ... and then i'm going to put a down payment on a WRX, Evo, or 350Z..

But whatever you do man, just make sure its a good reliable car..Not to many out there better then a Yota..haha

Stick with the celica. You can gain experience by working on it. Trust me, not a lot of us on here do their projects all at once. Its a little here a little there. People don't just go out and get the 3sgte swap with the gt4 front end and suspension done all in one week. That may take up to even a year for someone to accomplish things like that. I know some of our celis are over a decade old, but think about it, they aren't making celis any more. Sooner or later you'll be owning a classic.

haha you thought that was funny too..sweet.lol

And I do have to agree with you man. I'm a prime example of trying to get EVERYTHING done at once..and it ended in disaster, and ended up costing me $700..so...yeah..it sucked..But..you live and learn.

So now, i'm adding little..by little..and a little more here and there..And yes, you'll be owning a classic soon. Maybe in a few years Celica prices will go up and people will actually be able to get some money out of 'em. lol

yeah, well thats if you didn't mess with anything and left it mint. In my case I'm doing it for my enjoyment. ten years from now i'll bring it out and people will like at it the way they look at those old muscle cars that cruise around on a nice summers day.

I drove one of those 2000+ V6 eclipses at work a couple weeks back and those things are quick! almost as fast as my 5sfte celica. I wouldn't mind owning one.

But its a v6. I'm not a big fan of the v6, but I do like the torqueyness of it. Inline 6 is the way to go with me.

toyota and nissan both have inline 6's. of course, no new cars have inline 6's in them anymore. except maybe the new skyline, or is that a V8?

The new skyline has a V6 , almost exactly the same one as in Zs and Gs ... however , Nissan is saying it is a whole new engine.
