Should be fine. You'll probably need a new rubber gasket since you'll probably tear the old one up in the process. They're not expensive. Just make sure to use high temp paint.

Didn't have problems with my gasket either..
Just be careful of your injector wires when putting it back on.. I accidentally got one caught and the timing gear caught it and exposed the wire grounding it. didn't figure it out for about 3 days.. made me miss a show I really wanted to go to -------------------- ~Daniel~ No Longer Celica Owner.. moved on to a 03 WRX-EJ207

Sorry to ask my own own question in your post , but it is on the same topic
Can i paint my valve cover without taking it out of the car ??? how hard can it be ? Reason is , my gaskets are fine and i dont want to mess it up and end up with a leak |

yeah but you might end up spraying something you don't want to... the valve cover gasket is $16 from toyota... it honestly just the screws on top.... remove any hoses connected and paint the cover... you can also take a peak and see what kind of condition the cams are in for instance... put the cover back on with the new gasket... tighten down to 14 INCH pounds which is just screwdriver tight without any heavy torque at all and you'll have no problem... i know i had to put some FIPG on the camshaft corners on my 3sgte but i don't know if its the same with the other engines... i assume so... its probably easier than actually painting the cover haha

In my general theory of car mechanics, especially on aluminum material, there are sometimes sequences of how you unbolt and bolt back and torque.
Aluminum is very delicate. This post has been edited by trdproven: Jan 10, 2008 - 4:29 AM -------------------- 94 Celica GT

QUOTE(trdproven @ Jan 10, 2008 - 4:28 AM) In my general theory of car mechanics, especially on aluminum material, there are sometimes sequences of how you unbolt and bolt back and torque. Aluminum is very delicate. I've seen the diagram ... now let me see if I can turn it up. *EDIT* Couldnt find a diagram, and from what I'm seeing it depends on what your torquing down, but for head applications most people recommend to start in the middle and work your way out to the ends. As for torque on the valve cover the 7a is listed at 14ft/lb. 14ft/lb isn't very much, and you dont want it to be, otherwise you will squish/crack/break the rubber washer that goes under the acorn nuts. Also, adding to Jaws, be very careful putting it back on as not to catch ANYTHING in between when putting it back on. When I did mine, the gasket didn't seat properly on the lefthand side after I tightened it up... part of the gasket got caught in the timing gear, and I had a big messy leak haha. Was an easy fix though, just put a lil FPIG where the gasket ripped and havent had an issue-but I have an extra VC gasket anyway This post has been edited by laff09: Jan 10, 2008 - 10:07 AM |
