check tires, brakes, clutch (if manual) alignment, stuff like that, stuff you might have to replace soon after you buy it... it'll help you get the price down on the car if your trying to go for that...

put the car up on jackstands and make sure there isn't too much rust on the underbody. I know being in upper ny state theres a lot of salt damage to contend with.

148 is alot yes, but my old engine had 185K and it was fine, just depends on how well it was treated. 148 sounds bout the middle of the second clutch, unless he's destroyed it, or its auto? Timing belt should be changed, if it hasnt been already. Make sure its not burning oil, out the pipes, and check for dripping. Put ur hand by the exhaust to feel the back pressure. If there isnt or very little of it, i'd turn away.

I have an auto that had put 320K miles on her MR2, wrecked it about 5 times and it would smoke up the yard just by turning the engine on and letting it idle. So I can tell you this she had dog it, she even tried to beat my boyfriends Trans AM, needless to say she lose.
To get to the point, the reason why I brought a Celica ST 94 with about 100K on it was because I knew that if I customized it, unlike some domestic models, it would last and be able to take being modified. My mom also has a celica st 93 (5th generations last year) and she has more than 170K miles on it. The car runs nicely, no smoke, power to pass and all when she wants, and just over looks good. Granted that the body needs some what of a paint job but almost any car that is near 200K miles would need a paint job. So go on your judgement though, and you should be okay! |
