Ok heres a few shots I had laying around of the rebuild
The motor I got had a warped head from being overheated, so it was time to start new and get the head inspected and remachined along with all new gaskets and ARP head studs to keep things in place. The automotive machine shop I took the head to inspected the head and determined that they could fix it by milling it flat again. Sometimes you have to have it heated and bent back into shape, but fortunately mine was able to just be milled down .14" and it was all better: New ARP studs, new OEM Toyota MLS headgasket: New hose from hell on water neck and oil cooler, and so on: Oh, and I found a picture of the plate that came from my engine....I mounted it in the same location as the ST205 on the firewall: -Corey -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

I have no clue what the letters and numbers mean, all I know is thats the axle designation given to the ST205.
I'm sure Toyota has an explanation for it, but you'd probably be hard pressed to find out what it means. -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

The reason i asked was maybe it referred to a stock/part # for stock axles that would alleviate the mix and match axle combos w/ spacers people are running. Or am I way off?

Thanks Jason
QUOTE(lagos @ Jan 28, 2008 - 2:10 PM) so fresh and clean! whats the deal with piston4? Yea I dunno what the deal with #4 looking like that is. The engine has perfect compression now, and I just recently pulled the plugs and they all look great, and the injectors are all very clean.... the plugs that were in the engine when I bought it looked pretty fouled and old....so it may have been that, and/or the fact that coolant, oil, and exhaust gasses were being sucked into #4 when the head issue was at its worst. So who knows, its uhh...just, well seasoned. QUOTE(laff09 @ Jan 28, 2008 - 2:15 PM) The reason i asked was maybe it referred to a stock/part # for stock axles that would alleviate the mix and match axle combos w/ spacers people are running. Or am I way off? The E154F in the ST205 has a very different layout than the E153 as far as axles go. The E154F is obviously AWD, so the front differential accomodates the transfer case for the driveshaft to the rear diff as well....so the axles up front are much shorter and equal in length as opposed to the E153. Also the spines on the inboard transmission end of the axle are smaller than the E153. Heres some pictures of my E154F when I pulled it, you can see the length of the axles and the layout of the differential are way different. -Corey This post has been edited by Silver94CelicaOwner: Jan 29, 2008 - 1:41 PM -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

Hey Ive got a couple of questions.
1.How would you know the condition of the halfcut? 2.Did you need to spend any money on missing parts or extras or replacing broken parts? 3.Does the swap fit under the normal st204 bonet or does it need a 205 bonnet? (because of the top mount intercooler?) If it does fit, are there any cooling issues because there is no vent on the 204 bonnet? 4.What quarter Mile time is expected? |

If it does fit, are there any cooling issues because there is no vent on the 204 bonnet? 4.What quarter Mile time is expected? i know your not asking me but thought id help out anyway.. 1. you pretty much never know the condition unless you take it apart yourself. of coarse theyre going to tell you it only has so many miles and blah blah..but if your ordering online your always taking a risk. 2. HE spent a lot more money for extra parts and you usually will with any motor swap. 3. idk if it would fit, cuz correct me if im wrong but thats the reason for the bulge on the gt-four hood, for the extra clearance.. and there would DEF. be a problem with cooling because it has no room to breathe. 4. depending if your running front wheel or awd your looking at around the 13s range hope this is what you were looking for This post has been edited by celicaGT96: Feb 28, 2008 - 1:18 AM |

Hey guys. Everyone probably thought I fell off the face of the earth since I haven't been here since April, but I'm still around. I started a new job around then and its been taking up alot of time and not leaving much room to play with cars.
Since the last time I've been here the Celica has gotten a facelift prior to being painted next season, and I decided to replace my daily driver Corolla thats served me well with a 2004 Lexus IS300. I'll post pictures of the two together very soon. The Celica is still running and being driven regularly, however it needs its share of work. The piston rings on cylinders 2 & 3 are starting to show their damage in the form of low compression from when the engine first overheated, so that pretty much leaves me with only one option.... re-swap. On the chassis end of things, i need to replace a couple beat-up strut mounts and a sticky brake caliper as well as a few other odds and ends. I plan on taking care of all of this in the winter including a new engine before I do any racing, dyno runs, etc with the car. But mark my words when I say the Celica will be back and badder than ever. -Corey -Corey -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

Axles are Trans specific, not motor specific. If you use your current S54 manual 5 speed transmission, then you do NOT need to to worry yourself about axles. But, in this case the E153 trans was used.....and then you would have to concern yourself with axles.....which I believe is covered in this thread
