i am still in the "homework" phase of building a celica. I still happen to have a couple questions first of all what is the difference in the different generations of the 3S-GTE and what is the best for the ST204?? i was planing on buying a front clip of a 94-95 gt4 and pullin the motor out of that and building it then swaping it in to the gt with a e153 transaxle. no i have read many different things about the swap itself i have read that all i gotta do is pull the 5S-FE and drop in the 3S-GTE no problem then i have also read that i am going to have to do some custom fab work as far as motor mounts etc.. Now from what i have read if i use the E153 transaxle i wont have to worry about a different pressure plate etc.. i can just get one for an mr2 but what about the cv axles?? i pretty much got my whole plan on what i will be doing i am just waiting to finish my research then get out of college.

Its good to hear you have been doing some research.

If you are going to use the E153 transmission you will need to modify the bracket for the shift link to work. Because the E153 transmision is set up for a rwd set up and the celica will be using a FWD setup, therefore it will be backwards.

About your Axels, you will need to use hybrid axels and a spacers. You will need celica outer (the portion that connects to the celica hubs) and the mr2 inner, depending on whether you E153 tranmission has LSD. The spacers is needed because the celica is wider wheel base then the mr2, and the spacers prevents the axels from stretching.

The difference between different generations of 3sgte are hp and small design changes. But the main difference in 3rd generation (95+ gt4/mr2) compared to the older generation is water to air intercooler and Map based engine management. I recomend you look around more about the 3sgte engine, there are a ton of small differences and changes.

ok now what about the o.e.m. mounts with the 5s-fe i have read that they will work and read that they wont? also has anyone here have like major internal work done to the 3s-gte. cause i am planing on the jun 2.2 stroker kit, jun, 256 duration intake cam shaft and 264 duration exhaust cam shaft along with jun titanium retainers, adjustable cam gears, valves, guides, and i am probably going to do port and polish the head myself.
