But yeah .. great place. ???? where do u get your info ?? ALL the gulf countries have barely any " squalor " except Saudi Arabia , this is because the goverment ensures that every citizen gets their share of the country's revenues, which is ALOT ... Dubai for example is one of the fastest growing cities in the world , they have the world's largest man made island , where trump build a tower lol , they are working on the world's highest tower , they are also working on the world's biggest ammusment park , they have one of the biggest airports, and are working on the world's largest magnetic train network in the world, which will be free to the public.... Dubai, which is in the UAE ( United Arabian Emirates),( Emirates, means a place where a prince rules, so its actually the Emirate of Dubai) , is basically the richest of all gulf countries, and they have such a low population that everybody is getting tons of cash ! , usually everybody that actually works is a non-citizen, since citizens are all millionaires How do i know ? i was born and raised in Egypt , so UAE is like next door ... i dont really envy those people, they have no culture at all , and were all desert drewlers untill oil came up , and so they are trying to make a name for themselves, as for the money and cars ... they love to show off but damn it , they cant buy a suit !! j/k |

QUOTE(m0dd3d1 @ Jan 23, 2008 - 1:15 AM) Have you ever left [DE] your small plane of existance? Excuse me, this discussion is not of the great state of Delaware, its actually about Dubai. Secondly, yes I've done a fair amount of travel. Thirdly, your from MARYLAND. WOW! SO EXOTIC, simpleton ****. "Dubai has over 250,000 foreign laborers, many of whom live in conditions described by Human Rights Watch as being "less than human" [42] [43]. [44][45] NPR reports that workers "typically live eight to a room, sending home a portion of their salary to their families, whom they don't see for years at a time." The BBC has reported that "local newspapers often carry stories of construction workers allegedly not being paid for months on end. They are not allowed to move jobs and if they leave the country to go home they will almost certainly lose the money they say they are owed" -from wikipedia (if you want an 'academic' source, ask for one) More indentured service, rather than the blanket term slavery ... Really its just semantics. But yeah, in 2005 they changed a lot of legislation to protect children. Yet, Michael Jackson still moved camp there....for obvious reasons.. Dubai has a population of 1.3 million people, expected to double by 2010. 250,000/1,300,000=0.19xxx so 19% live in deplorable conditions, a small step from 75% admittedly. "Economic Policy In matters unrelated to diplomacy and defence, each emirate enjoys considerable autonomy in managing its own affairs. In business, the government of Dubai is committed to liberal, free market policies and to the creation of a business environment conducive to commercial activity. This approach is well illustrated by the incentives available to investors in the Jebel Ali and Airport Free Zones and by the continuing high level of public sector investment in the infrastructure." - http://www.leadingworld.net/info_dubai-3.php Sounds more like people invest in industry rather than receive direct revenues from industry... I'm not disputing Dubai's unprecedented economic and infrastructure development..It is simply amazing. |

"Hmm. Ask him if he's the dragon reborn." "What?" "Just do it." ".......He said yes." "Tell him you are not darklings. He should open up." ".......Sweet. Thanks." "No problem." |
