I'm currently in the process of swapping my GT engine for a 3S-GTE and would like to upgrade the transmission seeing as how the clutch in the GT I'm tearing the 3S-GTE out of was ripped to shreds at 40k miles. Of course I'd love to had one with LSDs, but I'm willing to go without. If anyone knows where I can get an MR2 Turbo tranny I'd really appreciate the help.

Thanks,
Keth

www.car-part.com

Get yourself a V6 Camry 5spd.. it's an E153.. then find an MR2 LSD. LSD inner stub shafts are 400 at champion toyota. I got my MR2 LSD on ebay from a guy in japan out of a 95 mr2 for 300 and I got the trans locally for 400. Comes out to about the same price as what someone will want for an MR2 LSD trans.. plus u have to change the shift housing around.

After doing some research I'm not sure which way I want to go yet. I wanted to get an MR2 Turbo Tranny since I made the noob mistake of buy the wrong clutch kit. The clutch I bought fits in the MR2 E153. After looking into what I have to do to make the E153 work in my car I found that it may be easier and cost the same just to buy LSD for the GT tranny, send the clutch kit back and get the Spec clutch that has the 3S-GTE clutch plate and GT splines.

Thanks for the info so far. I'm going to have to do some shopping around before I decide whether I'll be selling my GT parts.

Also, which year Camry had the E153? I was looking at the list of cars the clutch I bought fits on and didn't see a Camry. Thanks again!

Do not use your GT tranny with a 3sgte it's honestly a waste of good motor. And to anyone who wants to argue me on that then go call toyota and tell them they were morons for using the e153 on the turbo mr2's.

Keth, V6 5spd camry's use the e153.. so that's multiple years.. Even the V6 5spd Solara uses it.. search for around 98-02 or so...

It's not difficult to use the e153.. just need st205 mounts. It's also pretty easy to install a limited slip in the e153 as well.

What about axels, shifter linkage and cables? Wouldn't I also need those to fit any E153 tranny, or was that for MR2 only?

If you go with a limited slip then you will need limited slip inner axles (stub shafts).. they are expensive. The outter shafts would be ST185 or camry.

You can either get gt4 shifter cables or use your GT cables.
