so last nite i'm droppin my friend off at her house, just about to leave. my car has the parking brake up and is not in gear. feet off of the pedals. all of a sudden it stalls and i hear massive grinding. i turn it off and try to start it, again massive grinding. i get my flashlight and shine it under the car and pink fluid is just streaming out from behind the oil pan. so i think pink fluid then i think transmission fluid, am i right or just sadly mistaken? so i get it towed today to an AAMCO cuz i thought it was the transmission. it gets towed, the guy looks at it, and seemingly the trans is fine and there is no compression in the engine. has this happened to anyone else? is it the timing belt? i have never heard of a timing belt snapping and causing a huge ass leak though. well at least it happened in my friends driveway. am i gonna have to pay out of my ass to fix this? or possibly is this just a blessing in disguise to get a 3sgte? cuz that would definitely brighten up the situation. anyway, if anyone knows what the hell just happened to my car, please enlighten me.

NO ONE has had this happen? well, the car is at an engine shop right now, and i'm waiting for their call, but they prolly won't call me until monday cuz they're closed on the weekend and the guy said he might not be able to get to it today. thats mechanic code for there is no way i'm getting to it today. so i definitely don't have a car until monday, and prolly longer than that. if anyone has any clue what happened, TELL ME!

Pink fluid? could it be Anti-freeze, best case, a coolant leak got the ignition wet, or the water pump went out, froze up and broke the timing belt- most likely with loss of compression,,,, worst case - blown head gasket or cracked head or con rod thru block,,, I'd bet on water pump/timing belt prbs.

If it's not transmission fluid then I would agree that it's coolant, my celica came with pink coolant. Important question: if the timing belt breaks what damage does it cause our cars? Doesn't it have to do with inteference/non-interference engines? I think I've seen this discussed but I can't remember which way it affects our cars...

I thought I read that on our cars, if the timing belt breaks while you're driving, the pistons can hit the valves, which would pretty much ruin the engine.

If the timing belt brakes it wont hurt our engines. All celicas have enough clearance between the pistons and the valves. Of course this is what the dealership says but we all know how that goes.

yea i just got the car back. its ok now, and i hope it stays that way for a long time. it was the timing belt and the water pump, at the same time, plus the oil was really low. which is weird, cuz i change my oil at about 4k, and it was only around 3.5k, never had a problem before. the guy said maybe im burning oil. if i find that i am how would i cure that?
