I want to hide my ballasts and all the wiring from my HID kit. I'm thinking about extending the wires and mounting the ballasts on my trunk along with the relay and fuses. The reason being that I've already had to replace my ballasts and relay and if I ever have to do it again, I want troubleshooting to be clean, simple and in my face. This way, the only thing I need to go under my hood for is to switch the bulbs if needed or whatever. It keeps the engine bay cleaner and I don't have to drill holes or use anything to hold the ballasts in place.
I was thinking about just extending the wires and running them through the firewall, under the sills, and into the back. Is there anything else I should know? Is this something normal to do? Lol. Thanks in advance. -------------------- |

do you know how many volts those wires carry ?
a 35 watts HID system has a output of ~ 80-90 volts. make sure if you do that those wires are WELL protected and not exposed in any way. I'm sure you can find a place where to mount them in a clean and safe way on the engine bay with easy access. just inspect your engine bay once more, but if you definitely are going for it, PLEASE TAKE WELL care of those wires, I know is not 440 volts but in case of an accident the wires can be expose on the front and if in contact with metal, can change the outcome of a small accident.. There is a reason why car manufacturer install ballast right next to the headlamps, automotive ballast are design to stop working in a front end collision to avoid the risk of high voltage following through the car, installed on the back your ballast will be well protected from this, but the wires may get expose. -------------------- |
