Alright guys, I need some help with a new amp I'm getting... I've heard after 1000 watts rms you should upgrade the alternator as well as the batter and wiring. If I got a 1500 watt mtx thunder class d amp and ran 1 or 0 gauge wiring instead of my 4 now, would there still be problems with the alt? I just do not want to get this amp and then run into a lot of electrical problems. Also, my hifonics is about 900 rms right now and I havn't had a problem, which is why im considering this... Thanks for any help or advice everybody

well you deff would have to upgrade the wire to 1/0ga
then about the elec system it would be a good idea to get a h/o alt, however you will prob run into the same problem that i am having which is find a alt to put out good power, the only thing that i have found from almost everyone is about 110 amps at idle, i think ohio gen could get me 140 amps at idle however it was almost 800$, if you are looking else where i would say iraggi and excessive amperage are good alternatives and the alt will run around 350$ and do about 110 at idle. However i am running around 2300 watts of the stock alt. i do however have a 1000cca everstart maxx up front and a g31 1000cca marine batt in the back, it seems to do fine however i still have huge voltage drops after a while. i would say go for the alt and get a good batt up front and you should be fine to go and im sorry i see that you have a gt so there might be better options for alts out there but i have a st and ran into a lot of problems trying to find an alt This post has been edited by itssteve: Jan 26, 2008 - 3:50 PM |

Thanks for the input guys, I have a big cap but I've heard caps and batts are really only good when playing music with the car off... I'm just tired of the hifonics because I know my type R's can be much louder and handle a lot more power, plus the type r's are dual 2 ohm so I have them running at 2 ohms... I really just want to know how long the alt will hold up since the mtx pushes 1000rms @2ohms and its underrated so it should be around 1200 which is about 300 more than my hifonics and I havnt had any problems... Just wanted to know if anybody has ran into any problems with huge mono amps.

tim, its good practive to buy a heavy duty alternator when adding anything with 1000watt... you might not need it always, but do you want to get caught the day that it wont be able to keep up, and the day it dies because there was too much strain on it..

I was running a kx1200.1 kicker amp to 2 L7's and had a second kinetic battery. The amp was rated at 1374 watts, and i ran it all day long no problem. I only had 4 gauge wiring also.

So even with a second battery you still didnt have any problems... hmm well i think il be fine then because i was looking at an mtx or maybe something kicker which are both power hungry |

I havent heard too much about mtx, but since i got into kicker equpiment, ill never go to ne thing else! and I looked at the birth sheet again and its rated 1440, not 1374 -------------------- |
