I just installed a fresh XP Pro setup on my laptop, which previously used Vista. The problem is my sound!

There is an unkown device that will not go away! I have tried using the system recovery CD but that wont work, I tried looking for things online, but there is no help!

When I go to the properties of this unknown device, details, this is what it shows as the "Device Instance Id":

HDAUDIO\FUNC_02&VEN_1057&DEV_3055&SUBSYS_10573055&REV_1007\4&34D84B4E&1&0001

I know this device is from Motorola, whos vendor ID is 1057, but I have no idea how to fix it!

hmmm this is a strange situtation, you might be out of luck here. The manufacture might not even make drivers for windows XP.

Your highest chance to get the driver is to go to the manufacuture website ( your laptop's manufacture aka ACER IBM TOSHIBA) and download the sound drivers from there.

you can also try a older model of your laptop that share the same sound driver.

good luck.

Ok, so this is what I did to fix it.

Now up until this point, I have been very dissatisfied with Alienware's Tech support

I called them up and this guy, Andrew, connected remotely to my computer and 10-15 minutes later, wala! it was fixed. I don't know how or what he did, but he found some drivers on their website that I guess I passed over.

Thanks for your help anyways guys!

sounds like pretty standard stuff, specialy with laptops, just gata find the right drivers. like they said above go to the manufacturures site and surf there untill you find the drives then download them all and go at it, I would not get drivers from bareshare thats for sure, sounds like a great way to get a virus.

i think you should uninstall that xp you have there and load up some kde4

especially if you have some alienware, dual boot windows and kde/gnome that way you can still play games without educating yourself. but if your the type of person that gets alienware, you'll love kde & compiz. plus im sure your laptop has enough juice to run wine and then you dont have a need for windows (all that free hard drive space for extra game/dvd backups!!)

look into it. i know im never going back.

somehow i have a feeling that if installing a windows driver is too difficult, then linux is probably not the right OS for him.

You guys don't understand. My father has worked on computers for a loooong time. I have worked on many computers and know a LOT about them. This stumped me because I could not find ANY information on this dang driver. I don't just ask for help before exhausting all my alternatives EXCEPT for calling tech support. The reason I did not do this was because they have let me down many times in the past and I don't really trust them to get the job done.

This thread is over though, I finished what I needed. Mod Close.
