I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say that the ones without the hose are japanese spec. J-spec 7as wouldnt have any EGR and I'm not sure if they have a PCV/Charcoal Canister setup, but thats the hose in the middle rear of the valve cover.

There were like 3-4 different intake manifolds that covered 2 different heads on the 7AFE's worldwide. There is no dramatic performance difference, as in improved performance with one manifold versus the other simply because the intake manifold design isn't a major limiting factor.

theres 3 intake manifolds i'm aware of.

US spec fed spec emissions manifold which is big looking
US spec cali spec emissions which is little and dinky looking
Jap spec which works with the tvis system that the japanese and other market 7afe had. i think russian 7afe's have that going on also.

tvis 7afe supposedly makes 5-10 more hp at a slightly higher rpm than the US fed spec does. the 2 engines are very similar however and the difference is soo minimal that some slight tweaks to the US fed spec 7afe would yield the same results
