Ok so this has kept me up nights...

So in the first Terminator movie, Kyle Reese comes back from the future, sent by John Connor to protect his mother's life. So Reese sleeps with Sarah Connor and she has a child, John Connor. So how does someone exist prior to sending his father back in time to knock up his mother?

Well you have to think of it as the first time everything has every happened. Before they knew Skynet was going to create these robots or w/e. Kyle Reese hooked up with Sarah Connor back in the 80's, and they had a son, John Connor. Many years pass and it's like 2029, and then all that crap happens and this is when John Connor sends his father Kyle Reese back in time to change the present/future. Kyle reese goes back before Sarah was pregnant and before they met apparently, and knocks her up as 2029 Kyle Reese instead of knocking her up as 1984 Kyle Reese, thus the same results happen apparently, except this time she knows everything that is going to happen, unlike the first time everything happened. 2029 Kyle Reese dies, but 1984 Kyle Reese was never killed, which is why he is able to meet up with John Connor in the future. TADA! (Ok I know there's a paradox loop in the movie, but this is the best way to explain things so you can get some sleep smile.gif )

if you were to have sex with your mother then your child would come out mentally challanged (retarded). it's a fact, I don't know persoanlly but I have read.

That's an interesting fact. However nobody is talking about sleeping with their mothers. You have a dirty mind laugh.gif .

Kyle Reese was born in 2008, and was sent back in time by John Connor for the express purpose of protecting her. There was never a time when he didn't know about the machines.

I don't think your taking this seriously enough. laugh.gif

John and Kyle are like best friends in the future, and John is older.

Ok well to be honest, I've never seen the first movie laugh.gif . But ok, time travel is so confusing. It's like, ok say I wanted to change something that happened at 2pm last Monday. But, let's say, Bob, had already traveled back in time to make sure that everything stays the same. Would I have to travel back to last Monday at 2pm as well to fight Bob, or would I just have to travel back to 2 minutes before Bob traveled back in time to make sure he never travels back in time in the first place. However at this point in time, he is already in the past technically. But anyways, I understand the entire paradox. The major flaw would be that in "original" time, John has no father at all, and magically appears out of nowhere apparently. So if only Sarah Connor could tell us who his father was in the original time, it would be easier to figure out. So to solve you problem, you call up Maury, and have her be on his show.....in the past... before she met Kyle Reese. smile.gif

Maybe we will have time traveling tomorrow? You never know, someone in the future could invent time traveling and then bring it back to the past. So technically we could have time traveling last year wink.gif.

Good lord, what the hell is wrong with you!!!

Maybe the original John Conor had a different father to begin with, and Reese changed the future by banging Sarah. You have to remember that the first time around, the terminator didnt come for Sarah. She probably ended up staying at her job, and getting married or something. Since the terminator came to kill her, that scenario would never happen, so Reese actually had to get with her, just to make sure that John Connor gets born.

i already invented time travel.

however, when i went back in time it actually just created a parallel universe. i went to my house to check everything out and i saw myself looking on 6gc.net. i quickly jumped back to the present but found myself without the timetravel device i had created because my interruption of my past self looking at 6gc.net distracted me from looking up information in regards to timetravel thus eliminating any evidence in the present i returned to.

ok the alcohol has worn off now...

It's called a paradox.
In theory, Reece going back in time changes everything and the future he knew no longer existed.

Well there is the theory Art presented, where the first Terminator going back in time already changes things, so Connor sent Reese back in time to not only protect Sarah, but also to conceive a child. This is never said in the movie, but it is plausible. This would indicate that Reese and the Terminator going back in time changed only Sarah's life, and not the future of the world as a whole. Since John Connor is an intricate part of the resistance, he needed to ensure that he would actually exist.

So before 1984, John Connor became the resistance leader by chance, while after the Reese/Terminator time travel, and Reese explaining how John was in the future, he basically assured that Sarah would mold him into the soldier he needed to be. So even though he was most likely not the same looking, and maybe slightly different personality etc. he was still "John Connor - resistance leader" and that's the important part.

Time travel creates all kinds of paradoxes, which is why it is impossible.
Actually, it would be possible for a person to travel forward in time by slowing down:

aging, using some sort of suspended animation

or time itself (at least for the individual), by traveling at extremely fast speeds (according to Einstein's theories on relativity)

As far as traveling back in time, it just can't be done according to our current understanding of the laws of physics (although it would be cool to stop Hitler and get in early on some Microsoft stocks) biggrin.gif
